Big Fights 2012

what big fights do we want to see next year, and what big fights are likely?

we had the best domestic showdowns, mitchell-murray, cleverly-bellew, fury-chisora. and some good 'uns in the small halls, like mcdonnell v hall & buckland-sykes 2.

we had spirited performances abroad, chisora-helenius, murray-rios, murray-sturm, macklin-sturm. bloody good fights, all of them.

some of those guys, even in defeat, can build from their showings, maybe get rematches (chisora, martin murray for instance).

i know 2011 isn't finished yet, and we have the big 'un, froch-ward unification soon, but does anyone else have high hopes for next year?

i'd love to see povetkin-fury and have big hopes for macklin-martinez, (martinez, who's obviously coming off a stoppage of a polished darren barker...). clearly, fury is looking good with that chisora win right now; and macklin hopefulyl gets a big fight before his "loss" to sturm loses its shine (i see sturm losing his belt or getting another blemish pretty soon...)

if haye fights vitali, i hope he tries to inflict some damage. anything less and he is shortchanging the fans and letting himself down.

lists are boring. can we have discussion? if there's a fight you like, explain if it can actually happen...and what the outcome would be, perhaps...say something interesting.

i expect big things of kevin mitchell and ricky burns. one has had the best kind of domestic win, the other has had 2 wins in world class. they have the same promoter, warren, and burns has a fraction of the WBO belt, probably soon to be upgraded - especially if full champ jm marquez, who last fought at welter catchweight, pursues bigger matchups.

or would marquez come back down and defend his title vs burns? that would obviously be a major matchup. the most successful scot around these weights since buchanan/watt, vs one of the greatest mexicans...

lightweight's a good division for top matchups involving brits. so is middleweight as we could see macklin and martin murray using blemishes vs sturm to fight on the same US show, one challening the great martinez (coming off a ko of darren barker), the other vs andy lee.
