Nico Perez was an outstanding junior featherweight from Arizona. He had an excellent record and beat such fighters as Cookie Valencia and Javier Flores. Unfortunately, he was overmatched against Gomez who may have been the best pound for pound fighter in the world at the time. I remember Perez did well in the first couple of rounds but lacked the firepower to keep Gomez at bay. Perez remained in contention for a few more years, and he fought guys like Mike Ayala, Salvador Sanchez, and John Verderosa. He made a comeback in the last 1980's and fought Julio Caesar Chavez and Barry McGuigan. Perez was a real pro to say the least.
