Best 4-Way Rivalries

Post by Ambling Alp »

There have been a lot of discusion about Leonard-Duran-Hagler-Hearns.
How about some of the other great 4-way rivalries?

A couple that came to mind:
Langford-Jeannette-Wills-McVey
Angott-Williams-Montgomery-Jack

There has to be some other great ones. Can anyone come up with some?

Tyson-Holyfield-Bowe-Lewis should have been one but too many fights didn't happen or didn't happen till too late.

It's pushing it slightly with a dominant fourth, but Chacon, Boza, Limon & Arguello. Especially the epics between the first three.

DLH, Quartey, Winky Wright, Vargas. I know WW didn't fight DLH but throw in Tito & Mosley and it gets a bit complicated.

Already mentioned, but you cannot look past Leonard-Hagler-Hearns-Duran.

4 ATGs around at the same time in the same weight classes.

Will we ever see its like again?

I can't see it, you can make the case for all four of them in the all-time top 20. They are all easily inside of any top 50 worth reading.

The best one of that era with the except one of the matches didn't happen tag would be DLH, Tito, Mosley & Vargas. Tito/Shane would have kicked all kinds of ass.

I was always curious to see peak Quartey & Trinidad. I'd have liked to have seen JL Lopez get a fairer shake and get a few more big fights but he apparently liked hanging around on beaches smoking dope too much.

Quartey tito, if Quartey worked 15-20% harder in his fights I would have him jabbing Tito's head off, but with the levels of activity he tended to show i couldn't be sure. stylewise, a guy with one of the great jabs of the last 20 years should be a nightmare matchup for Trinidad, and yet.....

Quartey was vulnerable to quality left hookers, and what was Tito's best punch? That's right, Tito by TKO down the stretch, circa the 8th or 9th round.

BarryWashington wrote:hard for me to take tito. think he was incredibly overrated and quartey's piston like jab and straight right hand would be a nightmare for the poor defending tito (and yes saad TITO was a poor defender)
but Tito tended to come on strong late, and with Quartey throwing c25 punches a round that'd be real tough for him

I guess I should have qualified this;
All 4 of the fighters must have fought each of the other fighters at least once.
You guys have come up with a few that do qualify. There must be a few more good ones.
