New Junior Ranking System (15-16)

Post by ALLSTARboxing »

In 2012, I'm focusing on the Junior level rankings because my kids are 2016 & 2020 Olympic hopefuls. So I wanted to give everyone my thoughts on a new ranking system that will fairly and accurately rank the junior boxers based on tournament results.

National Junior Olympics Champion: 10 points, Finalist: 8 points, Bronze Medalists: 6 points, Qualified to Nationals: 4 points
National Silver Gloves *NO 16* Champion: 10 points, Finalist: 8 points, Qualified to Nationals: 4 points
National PAL Championships Champion: 8 points, Finalist: 6 points
National Junior Golden Gloves Champion: 8 points, Finalist: 6 points
Ringside World Tournament Champion: 8 points, Finalist: 6 points
Lonsdale World Championships Champion: 8 points, Finalist: 6 points
Title Nationals Champion: 6 points, Finalist: 4 points
ANY UNOPPOSED CHAMPION: 4 points
+1 point for every win in a tournament

Please give your input on this idea. I think this system will be an accurate way to rank the junior level (15-16). I would like to try it at the start of the new year basing off last years results. I will rank the top 5, but I might have to extend that for some divisions.

this is the greatest invention ever. I think a top 5 is a good start. U could even consider doing 13 and 14 yr old kids as well

Love this idea. This will keep everything organized for the future. If you need any help with results let me know. I also agree with scallum about adding the 13-14 if possible.

National Silver Gloves *NO 16* Champion: 10 points, Finalist: 8 points, Qualified to Nationals: 4 points
Since some of the Senior Division boxers are 14 and not 15, how will you determine who is 15 for your ranking? It wouldn't be fair to include 14 year olds.

I know that, I will find out that information after results are in. It should be easy to get ages from tournament director. It will not be a issue. :box:

The drawback to including the Silver Gloves is that a 16 year old who wins the National J.O. could be ranked behind another boxer who is 15 and was able to compete in both.

I would like to see that you use the top two tournaments only. Silver gloves n jr Olympics. You actually have to earn your way there. The others are open to anyone n they can actually get points n get ranked over other boxers bcuz they can afford to go. Just my opinion.

Dont the fighers have to also pay to go to Silver Gloves? I think any fighter who wins a tourney should be rewarded. I think the system the OP has set up is perfecto but he should include 13-14 yr olds too

I think many of the bigger kids are into football and basketball at this time. I could not believe that in the whole state of California my 13 yr old son had zero opponents at 147.Im new to silver gloves but it seems like there is not overwhelming interest out here in California. How about there in Ohio?

Actually here in Ohio its probably less boxers then n cali. Cali actually has a bigger market then mostly anywhere n the US. But yea not to many 13 yrs old 145lbs kid box. We actually have three in Ohio that I know of. So hopefully these kids attend n make it out to nationals.
