Manny has to be rated the best puncher in world boxing with his impressive no of KO/TKO's against the best fighters in the sport in several weights. His ability to carry his power through several weights means that his punching technique, speed, accuracy and explosive body mechanics has put him above the current crop

2. Johnny Gonzales -

Since moving to featherweight this guy has been devastating, stopping his last 10 opponents including winning the WBC title in Japan! His current form shows he has got the killer instinct and has always had good boxing ability, handspeed and a great punch. Is tall and rangy type puncher who can get good leverage into shots. Most underated fighter in boxing today and deserves his place as the current no 2 because of his lethal streak.

3. Roman Gonzales -

Brilliant puncher, great technique, very compact with good handspeed. The advantage that Roman has that he puts power punches together very well. Probably the best in the sport at putting power punches together in combnations. Has not fought a big fight yet, would like to see him against Segura.

4. Nonoto Donaire -

Best / hardest counter puncher in the game, very fast hands, punches from unorthodox angles. Doing Montiel the way he did puts him in here at 4

5. Yuriokis Gamboa -

Not really recognised as a puncher, this guy punches very hard, great speed, accuracy, technique and eyes to find the shots. Not sure if he carries his power up, but he could KO anyone at featherweight.

6. Takashi Uchiyama -

Punches well, good technically brawler type with a real thud in his punches. Works well behind a solid left lead - which isn't ususally how punchers work. TKO'd the current IBF champ Salgado and also Nedal Hussein in a war. Since he has made 3 defences of his WBA title all wins by KO. He has had a solid amateur career and has never lost a round in the pros. Looks like a good prospect and is very exciting because of his aggression, and hard punching

7. Juanma Lopez -

Stock has gone down since losing to Salido, but we all know he should be in the top 10. No doub't this guy can bang with both hands, has hand speed and talent but his vulnerability means he is in at 7

8. Marcos Rene Maidana -

Very much the best slugger / wild puncher in he business right now. Could give anyone a run for their money. Punches very hard with both hands and very aggressive, crude but relentless and alot of heart. Deserves a rematch with Khan

9. Mikey Garcia -

Punching technique, eyes and hand speed. Very thoughtfull in the ring aswell - not puncher traits but will serve him well When Garcia hurts someone he finishes them. Best finisher in the business. Can punch with both hands, keeps his punches compact, short and smooth, very artistic pure puncher - his technique reminds me of Diego Corrales.

10. James Kirkland -

This guy is a big puncher, and his recent win over in-form Angulo means he belongs in the list. Kirkland has not got the skills but punches so hard with both hands, has hand speed and is very accurate. Couple that with his raw strength and aggression and this guy is a bit of a beast

We will have to see if it carries the same power when he steps up in class, but so far it looks good. When he catches someone with it they have that shocked look in their eyes.

Everyone loves a real puncher. Two others that spring to mind are Julian Jackson & Edwin Valero.

and I'd love to see a real wreaking ball come through at super middle or light heavy. Cloud, Lacy, Miranda and Codrington have all let me down somewhat

As Counter-Puncher (of this parish) knows, I have a burgeoning man-crush on Jhonny G. The left hooks, the big booming right-hands, the ganchos to the liver... Like all proper tall skinny punchers should be, he's ridiculously vulnerable & prone to getting knocked out, therefore delivering as much if not more unpredictability, excitement & general edge-of-the-seat-ness for your buck than any other fighter in the world bar none. His KO of Hasegawa & the beating he gave Jackson Asiku (which rather put Choi's effort into perspective) are recent stand-outs, real displays of raw power. He's also Datsue's current favourite Mexican hard-nut under the age of thirty.

Randall Bailey is a great shout if we're talking pure punching ability. Still one of the best one-shotters in the game.

Light-heavyish isn't a good weight for punchers, any more. They're all either muscle-bound freaks whose own musculature stops them from punching properly (Lacy, Cloud) or cavemen (Miranda) or well, shit (Codrington & Green to a certain extent).

I know historically there's been some killers (Foster, Spinks' right hand, Michael Moorer, Archie Moore) but I don't think the weight's right any more for a proper hitter. Maybe it's something to do with draining or the frame size you have to be now to fit in the weight category or something but you don't see nearly as many one-shot artists at 175-ish as you used to. They all tend to fall into that "strong, solid but unspectacular" category these days.
