gerald vs nigel ben
awful wot happened and i was shocked how many people on fb put how he deserved it because he did dog fighting. i was shocked at this reaction, what does every1 else think??
Re: gerald vs nigel ben
abit harsh to say he deserved it,dog fightin was what he liked to do just like tyson liked to race pigeons. i was one of the people that thought that benn lost that fight in the first round,if he would of lost the fight the next fighter to fight g-man would have what happened to him on their concience.

Hilarious series of posts
Re: gerald vs nigel ben
so if Benn was counted out in the First round this means the next guy who fough Mcclellan would have put Mccellan in a wheel chair

This thread is redundant anyway because of the proper Benn/McClellan thread that already exists.
The manner of expression in the first two posts are what I'd imagine a conversation between teenagers at a bus stop to sound like.

Re: gerald vs nigel ben
the thread was put up as i wanted to know the opinions of boxing fans not randoms on fb who dnt realy follow the sport. to many people spend time moaning about what people write on here!! very simple way to deal with a thread u dont like is simply to ignore it! that would be the grown up thing to do.
Re: gerald vs nigel ben
Well I am an animal lover and abhor dog fighting but at same time cannot feel any pleasure or 'justification' in Geralds plight. Boxing is a rough and dangerous proffession, should we really be expecting all our fighters to be whiter than white outside the ring and playing nothing more violent than chess or cards when theyre not fighting?... I think not. For me the dog fighting is not an issue, Gerald was a warrior in the ring who got his injuries lets be honest for our entertainment!. I think we at least owe him the respect that he earned in the ring when he gave his active life in the name of the sport we love to watch. Considering we all enjoy watching men hitting eachother and possibly giving eachother life changing/ending injuries in the process I really find it sadly ridiculous that we should turn against a fighter who has been severely injured becasue we do not approve of his outside of the ring lifestyle/hobby. The word hypocristy comes to mind.kells wrote:the thread was put up as i wanted to know the opinions of boxing fans not randoms on fb who dnt realy follow the sport. to many people spend time moaning about what people write on here!! very simple way to deal with a thread u dont like is simply to ignore it! that would be the grown up thing to do.

Re: gerald vs nigel ben
There was a story of him running down a flamingo in a car park and laughing about it and he also has his 'love' of pitbulls. It's safe to say his love of animals is somewhat misplaced. It's not a healthy attitude to have as animals don't deserve bad treatment in my or most peoples books. If a phychiatrist was to analyse him as a young lad, finding out that he has a 'torturous' association then they would be classing him a future serial killer. However he did take a better path by going in the ring and with a bit ot stupidity and youth thrown in, he may have changed his ways as he got older. Initally I was torn as I'm an animal lover but at the end of the day it's a little bit harsh to say 'he deserved what he got'

i was shocked at the reaction on fb to be honest, never realy crossed my mind things hes done in the past
Re: gerald vs nigel ben
'WAR BABY!'- Very informative read on all things Benn v Mclellan ;;-)
Re: gerald vs nigel ben
As a dog lover, the thought of someone training a dog to fight, maim or kill another does genuinely disgust me, however so do paedophiles. It does take guts, to get in the ring, no question but a person does that willingly and knows the risks. Animals and children do not have that choice and therein lies the difference. I do think all good and bad actions have, in turn, a reaction.
FB, Twitter and whatever god awful other social networks are available are pretty dire. I would not take what they say too literal. It's mostly done for a reaction and to look socially 'cool'. I never read them, then again, I never use them.

I'm not saying you're wrong incidentally, I believe he entered the ring as slightly damaged goods, but there is no documentary evidence whatsoever so you can't state that as a 'fact'.

McCllellan is westernised though so it's a bit of a kop out really...he should know better but chose to ignore it. He's a bad boy at the end of the day that has had something terrible happen to him.MachoMan09 wrote:How accurate is that theory, I wonder. In Afghanistan, I've seen local kids absolutely terrorizing stray dogs, hitting them with sticks, throwing stones at them, beating them and so on. To the kids it's just a game. Dogs to them aren't cuddly play things or man's best friend; they're a mangy, worthless creature. These kids aren't 'evil' future serial killers, they're just having a laugh and, where they're from, their actions are perfectly acceptable. They think Westerners are odd for humanising animals. Similarly if McClellan grew up around and amongst people involved in dog fighting, it makes perfect sense that he wouldn't class it as anything other than normal behaviour. I'm sure decent psychiatrists would caveat their assessments in order to account for differing cultural norms.Roars Like Me wrote:If a phychiatrist was to analyse him as a young lad, finding out that he has a 'torturous' association then they would be classing him a future serial killer.

Re: gerald vs nigel ben
Mclelland may have been into dog fighting and may have done some nasty things but he was no rapist, no nonce, no murderer so NO, noone can say he deserved what he got. What he got is worse than any rapist or paedophile, he got worse than life in prison, he had his mind, body and sight taken from him.
Dog fighting is a terrible thing to do, you deserve punishment for such things, but you DO NOT deserve what Gerald got. Anyone who says that is a very, very mixed up individual.
Incedently, by the same token, anyone who blames Benn for what happened, the ref, even that moron who thinks he is colonel Gaddafi in the corner is also mixed up. It was boxing, its very, very sad and watching the documentary was tough, especially when Benn met him again. Awful.
But it was an accident, a horrible unfortunate accident thankfully very rare in this great sport and definately, definately, Gerald didnt deserve his outcome!!!!!

Animals dying because of human decisions. Knowingly sending them out to fight to the death is callous and evil. To think otherwise or to dismiss it as some kind of lesser crime is pretty poor judgement. I just wanted to say that.ryanst1982 wrote:Dog fighting is a terrible thing to do, you deserve punishment for such things, but you DO NOT deserve what Gerald got. Totally agree. but the point I made is it isnt on par with rape or being a paedophile or murder. We dont know the inns and outs of it, noone does. But it certainly is not OK to say he deserves what has happened to him. No way.bengulnaci1 wrote:Animals dying because of human decisions. I never once dismissed it. But sorry, it is a lesser crime than rape or murder. Any rational person will see that. That is not dismissing it. Ive stated its terrible and people deserve punishment for such things. Like years inside. But not to become what Gerald is now. That is not something he deserved. Im sure you will agree. If you dont then I cannot see your view at all

Re: gerald vs nigel ben
Ryan, you are making the same error of judgement that others did when i said the same thing as bengulnaci1 on the other thread. i said that mclellan was basically a cnt for what he did, and that what goes around comes around. i also got accused of saying that he got what he deserved. its not about getting what he deserved, its really about if you do something so cruel, so abhorrent, so inhuman - like what mclellan did - he does not deserve the sympathy that people are giving him. there are millions of people out there who view animals as deserving the same rights as humans, and vice versa - i am one of the former so of course I am going to have strong views about this issue.ryanst1982 wrote:Totally agree. but the point I made is it isnt on par with rape or being a paedophile or murder. its been done to death now so i think we should all accept that there will be some on one side and others on the other side when it comes to such matters..

Don't take offence mate, but if you really need an explanation, then humanity really does have problems.MachoMan09 wrote:Why?ryanst1982 wrote:Knowingly sending them out to fight to the death is callous and evil.
