Mike "The Rebel" Perez

Post by Rags19 »

Heard he may be fighting here in the States on December 30th. I've heard the name, but never seen him fight and trying to decide if its worth the trip.

Does anyone have any video of some of his recent stuff that you could share? I've found some stuff on youtube.com; but its all 1-5 minutes long either highlights or his first round TKO of Tye Fields.

Something with some substance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Perez appears to be in shape and likes to fight hard, Solis whilst equipped with plenty of skill and power is lazy, grossly overweight and has turned out to be seriously lacking in punch resistance without the big mitts and headgear. I wish Perez would fight more often.

I wouldn't say Solis lacks punch resistance as such, Haye hit him flush much harder than Vitali did. He was shook up no doubt, but didn't go down. At no point during his other fights has he shown any chin vulnerabilty and Vitali's reaction when Solis went over suggests he didn't land anything hard. Due to being so overweight and out of shape, I'd say Solis just lacks body resistance.

Hi Rags

My reading of Perez is that he's a heavy handed heavyweight who tries to bomb his opponents out first couple of rds by rushing them and throwing bombs and this works great against the kind of low level heavyweights he's faced so far but if those guys are still there after 3 or 4 rds he starts to lose focus and dosen't really have any other tools or answers and seems to get bored or sleepwalk the rest of fight.

If your man DW can survive those first few rds and gets his jab pumping out into Mikes face constantly i think DW could take him to deep waters and drown him later in the fight so i think it'd be a good fight for DW if he can come in shape and focused as it's a winnable fight for him but one that won't be easy.

Have you guys noticed how short his arms are? He is constantly lunging in to make up for it. This is clearly gonna cause him problems against better opposition. Also, the way his weight seems to be going up may suggest that he favours the Odlanier Solis fitness regime! This will certainly hinder his progress.

You're talking about TEN YEARS ago mate, with the big gloves.

He took a shot on the top of the head, an arm punch, and was jelly. This wasn't exposed by earlier opponents because he has exclusively dined on bums who didn't challenge him.

Yeah, plus the guy was so fat that his knee couldn't support his quivering weight. Hardly a sign that world domination beckons. Cuban defectors should be tied to a bedf, fed via IV drip and not allowed within a thousand yards of a gaudy gold jewelry store. Or a Cash Converter.
His dream growing up in Cuba was to one day leave his family and friends behind and defect to America so that he could spend all his money on buying spongebob sqaure pants jewellry and then when he's fat, old and broke live on the streets as a bum...so i guess yeah he's living the American dream!

He doesn't hit that hard and I saw him fight zach page in 2009, he gassed when taken into the later rounds. I think he will struggle against anyone with a good jab and good footwork.

It's a shame when any fighter cuts corners but I'm not going to blame the Cuban guys too much.
Some of these chaps have been training like world champions from the age of 8!!!

Thanks. We were asked about the fight, but its not going to work at this time, but it just so happens I'm going to be in California for work that week and thought I would check it out, but didn't want to waste my time if Perez doesn't bring anything to the table. I'm curious enough now to take a look. We're talking about DW v. Perez for March 17th as a possibility, so I guess some up-close scouting can't hurt.

I hope DW gets the fight because as i mentioned it's a very winnable fight for him if he fights smart which with respect i don't think DW did in his 2 recent losses against Meehan and Austin where he blew his load early and gassed out.

I'm sure your team will come up with a great gameplan on how to beat Perez but if you allow me to throw my 2 pennies worth here's a few tactics to throw your way.

If i was DaVarryls trainer i would make sure he uses his jab and reach advantages(6ft 4 to Mikes 6ft) for the first 4 or 5 rds to allow Perez to throw his wild punches and exert alot of energy during those rds, DW just needs to save his energy and stick that jab in Mikes face during these rds plus mix it up with some uppercuts and right crosses occassionly but never fully commit himself or allow Perez into range as he'll start to lose focus and drift through the fight.

By the 5th or 6th rd once Perez has started to slow down i would then tell DW to up his energy and activity and put in a really quick rd and unload on him, i honestly don't think Perez would know how to react or respond and my feeling is that DW would get him out of there.

From what ive seen Williamson CAN beat Perez , ive not seen a huge amount of him but ive seen enough to see he can win it, if i was a betting man id put the money on perez but its certainly not a clear cut result , could actually be a pretty good fight .

DAVARRYL WILLIAMSON IS STILL FIGHTING?

What is this, 2004? Good God, TOS needs to hang up his gloves before he is permanently brain damaged. He is in his mid-40s and has been badly KOd in his last two fights.

Anyone who cooperates with a Williamson comeback and feeds him to a hungry young puncher is a sick, blackhearted profiteer.

I have watched in him for years. The 2-2 record is basically irrelevant, the two guys who could fight destroyed him and the two tomato cans he beat.

In his day I would pick TOS to beat Perez, Austin and Meehan handily but he is old and finished. The last two KO losses were horrific.
