Amir Khan beaten fair & square. Listen to the loser complaining about hometown decisions. I can't think of a single boxer who has benefited more from hometown favouritism in his career.

Amir Khan once and for all - not on the level of Victor Ortiz and Tim Bradley, let alone FLOYD MAYWEATHER, MARQUEZ or PACMAN.

the ref was shambolic , he had no control of the fighters who were hitting as soon as he told them to break and peterson cming in head first but then penalising kahn for pushing him down etc .
the judges scored it right but with no points deducted kahn should have won and also the fight may not have even gone the distance with a descent ref not hassling kahn constantly , kahn has every right to feel agreived

Yup, this is the key point; not the point deductions.

He was telling Khan to step back, instead of calling break, separating them, and then calling box. It meant that Khan was the one having to make all the effort and sacrifice to get out of the clinches and allowed Peterson to get on with his work. It also allowed loads of hitting "on the break" from Peterson, because "break" was never called or properly instituted.

I also think that Khan has a point about holding and pushing. There were loads of occasions where Peterson would just come in with his head low, rush, and it would end up under Khans armpit, without him even moving.

Did anyone else also think that the Sky boys gave Peterson's aggression far too much credit? There were some rounds where he was marching forward and just getting completely out-hit, and the Sky boys were saying Khan was in trouble. The first two minutes of the twelfth, for example.

I didn't comment on this thread before but I would have said he had no chance based on his lack of speed and leaky defence. I should stick to not predicting - got a good few wrong this year.

I've yet to see the fight, but I'm all for a referee allowing the action to go on rather than calling break all the time.

Inside fighting is an art, in the same way that defence, counterpunching and footwork are all parts of making a top class fighter. Amir is utterly useless on the inside and resorts to excessive holding, turning his back etc to buy time.

He had the benefit of a questionable call in the Maidana fight when he could have been stopped (personally I thought he was OK to continue but Cortez would have been justified) so sometimes these things even themselves up.

As for the predictions, I had Amir on points, pretty much everyone I know was calling Khan by stoppage, assuming that they'd picked Peterson for a quick payday before a big fight, having not seen him before.

Like you Jeff, my record is shite this year. I think I've got my last 12 wrong. Good job I've not placed bets on all of them, otherwise I'd be clearing Aldi out of their 7p chopped tomatoes

Honest I used to be amazing at picking them - think I've got too cocky with my ability. No chance I would have picked Edwards either last night...... I might start watching another sport like squash or something.

LP won fair and square. khan has reached his level and i suspect he will go downhill rapidly from here on in. he clearly has zero intelligence, doesnt know what to do when he cant bully old, or has-been, naturally smaller men. khan has his blinding speed and excellent athleticism , but thats about it.and he is showing an alarming will to take punishment. we all slagged him off for having a glass chin, but now he seems to relish getting it tested. he should be boxing to his strengths, but those mugs that convinced him he had naz like power, have polluted his head.
khans a decent fighter, defo world class, but hes certainly no great. as a person he comes across as being a total nob, thick, ungracious, overindulged. he got an easy ride most of his career and hes begining to pay the price for it now.
was it only last week he was telling tim bradley to grow a pair? he looks like a mug now.

I checked and you are right, Peterson is bigger than I thought - 5'9'' to Khan's 5'10'' and 74 reach to Khan's 71 - so a much better match up framewise than I realised. He just looks a little fragile to me.

Not sure Khan is getting 'better and better' - his opposition bar Maidana has been very weak; McCloskey, an old Judah, Malignaggi and the worst boxer of all time, Salita. That's pretty bad.

Can anyone name me an era where Amir Khan could have held a recognised world title at light welter for two and a half years, other than this one??

The last point is brutally accurate. I actually thought peterson would give khan a really hard battle and couldnt understand sky pundits looking past peterson to a mayweather match.

But Roach has still not addressed Khans reverting to an amateur style when under pressure, and not sitting on his punches more. Roach quite simply is not maturing Khan as a boxer. At 25 Khan has perhaps more juice in his legs than any boxer. he can literally jump around all night. But when his legs go, as he gets older, hes gonna have to learn to fight stationary.

I cant see khan being number 1 back when guys like the following ruled the roost at their peak.......Tyszu, ODLH, Chavez,Pryor, but he beats Hatton,Judah.
