According to the danish newspapers Damgaard pulled out because he feels he needs more (easy) fights before taking on the likes of Urkal.
Lets hope it is just one or two fights he feels he need to be back on top again. Otherwise i can se him retering as a good undefeated fighter who never got (took) a shot at a decent title and that one never got to see how he would fare against the best in his division.

Damgaard's promoters are not at all happy about him pulling out either apparently.

Try to check http://www.teampalle.dk the "Markussen vs Calzaghe" and the "jeg kan jo ikke bokse kampene selv" articles for more info about it.

It was nearly 4 years ago I was having a drunken conversation with a very nice Danish couple on the tube one night, and we all agreed that Damgaard had a good chance of lifting some kind of legit belt. I can't believe he STILL hasn't fought for a title.

They fought at the 1996 European Championships in Vejle, Denmark, which was the olympic qualifier and Urkal gave Damgaard a real beating. I guess he don't forget that night.

Yes I see Bettina Palle is not too happy about Damgaard pulling out of the fight when you have to discuss if the career of an undefeated boxer should continue or not.

That's got to hamper his footwork. Any idea who Urkal will be fighting? And how much Trabant will be paid for this homoerotic freak show?
