How impressive was Peterson?

So far, the fall-out from this fight has centred around Team Khan criticising the ref, demanding a rematch, money and a discussion on whether Khan is as good as he and his team make out.

Should we not start to focus on the fairytale story that is Lamont Peterson. A kid left homeless on the streets at a young age (not sure how exaggerated that has been but either way it's a story), was taken in by a gym to learn how to fight along with his brother, worked his way through the rankings to get himself into a position to fight for a title (as an 8/1 underdog) and earn a decent sum of money before defeating the current champion in a thrilling fight?

Peterson had clearly done his homework, got himself into tip-top shape and grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He forced himself on Khan to take him out of his comfort zone and to a place where he was left no ideas.

Re-match or not, it's some story and hollywood will come calling one day.

good man, i think Peterson's performance in terms of him getting the maximum out of himself would rate a 9/9.5 out of 10......

It does seem as though Peterson is getting somewhat overlooked in the fallout from this fight.
We've got a large section of fans blaming the ref, we've got suggestions of foul play with the scorecards. Then there's people refusing to get drawn into that element but at the same time suggesting Khan threw it away by "not following the game plan that would have made him a clear winner."
Now the suggestion is Khan would breeze a rematch, but we thought he'd breeze the first fight didn't we? (me included)
For me, Peterson sussed Khan out and stopped him getting into his rhythm, and Amir didn't have a plan B, or if he did he wasn't able to utilise it.
It was a very good and very close fight, the deductions were a bit harsh but even without them I thought Peterson was in with a shout.
No doubt Amir will go back to the gym and work hard on the flaws from this fight, but this doesn't automatically mean a rematch would be a gimme (regardless of where it takes place), because I'd like to think Peterson would take this experience and figure out a way to make life very tough for Khan in the rematch.
People go on about if Khan had fought a disciplined fight like he did against Kotelnik he'd have walked this. I disagree, Kotelnik didn't have the tools to disrupt Khan's gameplan, Peterson clearly did and I think he deserves credit for doing so effectively.
Khan will come back from this and I'm pretty sure he'll hold a world title again before long and maybe at petersons expense, but it certainlywon't be a walk over.

Exactly, Peterson seems to have the dedication and the desire to keep on improving and look to take advantage of his opponents weaknesses. He'll work on things that might not have gone to plan in the fight whereas you get the impression that Khan won't want to change as he refuses to accept anything other than he was robbed

But i still say congratulations to Peterson because he was couragous and determind and it certainly wasn't all down to Khan not sticking to his game plan. I would say that Khan will win a re-match, but for now Peterson can enjoy the limelight

Ps The story was interesting, but definately hyped and manipulated to sell a story

I can always remember the story that Brendan Ingle put about, how he discovered Naz, fighting off three or four attackers in a playground whilst Brendan was watching and taking note on the top deck of a bus !! When Naz was asked about it much later in his career he just smiled and said " It never happenned, it's just Brendan and his stories..........." this was while they were still very close by the way !!

I thought Peterson was very impressive.

He has got to the top the relative hard way and has clearly learned what to do in fights. I actually had him even before the last round because of workrate and endevour.

Peterson just looked like he wanted it more and although he may well lose the rematch if it happens, he exceded all expectations in the first fight and proves that boxing betting is way off the mark.
