Who are the top 6 for the season?

Give me your top 6 for the season and I'll do a bit of averaging to get the field for the "Year End Super Sexy" Super 6 ready.

Ali
Dempsey
The Rock

Beyond that, there's a group of fighters who could all claim part in this. Louis, Holmes, Tunney, Tyson, Lewis, Jackson, and maybe Johnson too.

Do we have to pick now? I'm hoping for a last minute Tyson run to seal his place.

I'd actually have Holmes ahead of Jeanette.

I'd like to make it part of the season, with group stages being weeks 36,37 and 3, semis week 39, Finals week 40.

Finally tally will be after week 35, so you can wait or edit your existing list anytime before then.

Being 100% objective here, no bullsh1t.

My 6 would be:

Muhammad Ali: Million Dollar Tournament Champ, that alone should be enough to put him in.
Rocky Marciano: Spent most weeks as The Number One ranked fighter in the Sim.
Jack Dempsey: A great resume, successful season.
Joe Louis: Consistent top-ranked fighter - 5 time World Champion.
Peter Jackson: 6 Time World Champion. Not many fighters have ever done that in Simhistory.
Mike Tyson: Multiple World Champion.

Honourable mentions;
Joe Jeanette: Overachieved this season, but still didn't do enough.
Larry Holmes: Had a good 2nd half of the season, but for me, that's just not enough.

For once I agree with Crease. My top 6 would be very similar.

What are the biggest wins of those mentioned?

Is Stribling the only guy to beat Ali & Marciano?

Schmeling has wins over; Marciano, Johnson, Jeanette, Wills & Moore. Also has wins over Bowe x2, Norton x2, and Corbett amongst others

And Wills (the undisputed Lonsdle champ) doesn't get a sniff either?

The top six are easily definable by the Commish's list.

It is incontrovertible evidence, and should be averaged out over the season as to who the #1 to #6 fighters truly are.

THE ROCK could be bounced around by the likes of Eric Esche at this point and still be on average the best fighter of the season by all empircal assessment options.

The other six are just about as easily definable as well.

Ali, Dempsey and Marciano would lead the half dozen names.

I need to sit down and go over the resumes and see. There are some fighters with nice records that are largely padded or lack defining wins. And there are some records that aren't great, but loaded with high level competition and great wins.

For example, if we break down Joe Louis's resume:

Below average wins

Greg Page
John Ruiz
Jess Willard
Gerrie Coetzee
Martin Rogan
Chris Byrd
David Haye

Average or decent wins

Jimmy Young
Archie Moore
John L Sullivan x2
Wlad Klitschko
Ken Norton

Above average or good wins

Vitali Klitschko
Joe Jeannette
Sam McVey
James Jeffries x2
Sonny Liston
George Foreman
Joe Frazier
Lennox Lewis

Exceptional wins

Mike Tyson
Jack Dempsey

Bad losses

None

Good losses

Muhammad Ali
Jack Johnson
Peter Jackson
Jack Dempsey
Rocky Marciano
Joe Jeannette

So one could say that Joe Louis had some good wins, as well as plenty of below average or average wins, and had 2 defining wins, along with 6 losses to the elite level fighters. Probably good enough for a top 6 spot, but time will tell.

The problem with an 8-man deal is that it would need 7 weeks for the round-robin format to be completed. The way that you suggested means that some fighters will avoid each other,
and that kinda this defeats the purpose.

That's an interesting way of looking at things, I'm intrigued by this new angle of assessing fighters. The only thing I would add is that people will have different opinions on what compromises "good wins" with "exceptional wins"...
So really it all comes down to how people rate the various fighters.

For example, I would say that Louis victories over Frazier & Foreman would be "exceptional wins" because they are against all-time top 10 Heavyweight fighters.
:TU:

Still, lets run with it and see how it goes.

But as it pertains to the current season, they wouldn't be considered great wins considering their performance. Foreman has found his form lately, but for much of the season he's been very up and down. For the record very few fighters would be considered exceptional wins.

Fair enough, but then if we are ignoring historical significance, then fighters like Joe Jeanette cannot be said to have overachieved this season since we're ignoring what the real fighter did a century ago.

Thus, Jeanette should definitely NOT be getting in because he has not achieved enough this season.

If I understand you correctly, I would think differently.

A lowered rated fighter....(E.G. Max Rosenbloom in a previous season) who outperforms his rating should be given serious consideration. That would seem to me to be a more difficult achievement than guiding a Marciano, Ali or a Louis to an expected top rating.

Current performance should be given great consideration. I think I agree with the commish here.
