Happy that Khan lost his belts?
Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
I don't think it's strange to support a boxer just because he's from the same country as you. The fact that you grew up in the same place is something you have in common, if nothing else. I think that helps the average man on the street to identify with a fighter.
Anyway, it's late and I'm tired. I was happy when the announcement was made, I'd become tired of the seemingly constant articles on sports sites about a potential Khan Mayweather match up, with Khan saying he is ready to beat him. Confidence is one thing but without much to back it up, it can quickly become annoying.

Ricky Burns is an excellent role model for kids as well, but at no time would i say that Khan is any of the things you say.jimcook wrote:Ricky burns is a good role model. I think he's a good role model for alot of youngsters, i work in a youth centre for 16-24 year olds, and he's one of the only boxers they know and i don't hear them slagging him off. most of them see him as something you can attain to.
another thing i wanted to say...i never understood the patriotic nonsense in boxing....i have always followed boxers because of the way they fight or act or the things they say, regardless of where they come from, race culture etc
each to their own mate, but your off the mark there, way off.

Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
I am happy that Khan lost because of his post fight comments. Come on Amir have a bit more class, then go about getting the rematch quietly.
I like watching him fight but those comments were not on.

Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
well ive never met him in person ,so maybe he is completely misrepresented by the media..in which case Im wrong.
however,if hes such a nice guy how come hes surrounded by one of the most hated entourages in boxing?
how come all his major trainers and promoters have bore the brunt of khans failures in the ring? (apart from current, though who knows maybe freddie will be getting sacked now for khans defeat?
How come he hasnt had the class to acknowledge hid defeat, and is now taking his case to lawyers to get the result changed?
how come he races round town in his blingmobile running down innocent pedestrians...
if you look back far enough you will find more and more reasons that i cant be bothered listing.
All his pro career he has put down his fellow pro's, most of whom had to come thro the ranks the hard way, working day jobs, training at night, getting paid peanuts...very diff for khan who due to his olympic medal had it all laid out on a plate. he rubbished a consumate pro like john thaxton then shat out of fighting him. he did the same with quite a few others. Hes tried to play the race card as well if i remember correctly
the list goes on and on

The questions in the poll are some of the most ludicrous I have seen

Khan is not now, nor has he ever been, a huge draw in the US. GBP have to give away tickets and rooms for all of his shows hence why the fight was in Washington, as GBP were trying to actually make some money on one of his fights.kingfinn wrote:People dont just support khan because he's a brit - he's a massive draw in the US for a start.loaded_gloves wrote:The fact that there are people who blindly support someone simply because they are British is alarming.
The OP clearly has an agenda otherwise he would have made the options Yes, No or Dont care. Rather than leading questions with no clear way to answer.
If you say you're not happy that khan lost his belts you have to tick an option which says "he's british so i support him regardless".
This crap should be limited to the current scene.

He's a bigger draw than bradley and peterson though isnt he. Wasnt Maidana v Khan sold out? and Malignaggi v Khan.jtourettes wrote:Khan is not now, nor has he ever been, a huge draw in the US. Khan v Maidana was nowhere near a sell out as far as i'm aware and Malignaggi v Khan was moved from the main room to a small roomkingfinn wrote:He's a bigger draw than bradley and peterson though isnt he. No, i don't think he is. Before the Peterson fight he claimed they were all his fans (and still on the radio this morning) but i reckon if you asked any casual boxing fan in the states to name a British LWW they would still name Hatton
Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
I think khan mis-took people being friendly in the street for actual people who would support him against their home fighter.freddydoesdallas wrote:No, i don't think he is. Correct. Judah wasn't a sellout either.freddydoesdallas wrote: Khan v Maidana was nowhere near a sell out as far as i'm aware and Malignaggi v Khan was moved from the main room to a small room
Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
I must say I'm abit surprised by the poll tallies so far. Amir Khan does come across as abit arrogant but he's great to watch, and let's face it most boxers come across atleast a little arrogant.
Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
yes i'm pleased. a surprise is always good in sport. it was a better fight than expected. and it gives khan a chance to improve on some things and have a good rivalry with a strong opponent.
imagine if he'd gone into a super fight before this. it would have been bad news.

His campaigning of the WBA to overturn the decision is getting daft now.

Previously we have always routed for the brits no matter what fight they are in or who they are fighting. But cocky arrogant fighters like Khan and Haye have made us realise we much prefer the modest, hard working fights, ie Burns and Peterson. These are the kind of people that now seem to take me in and gain my support
This is just my opinion but if you wanted Khan to lose last week then for me you're in the wrong

Yes it is. He should let it go.G0mez wrote:His campaigning of the WBA to overturn the decision is getting daft now.
Its irritating when people pick up on a theme and run with it for no other reason than because they can
Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
khan doing well raises the sports profile in britain & creates more intrest so i aint happy he lost!
i was glad the right man won tho.i felt there was a huge genorosity to khan in the scoring also
being with gbp really does help :!:

Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
Totally agree, Khan IMO has reached his level. Mayweather or Bradley LOL.G0mez wrote:There should be an option for happy Peterson won.
The guy was rummaging through bins and living under a motorway bridge aged just 10yrs old. That's a terrible start to life. He's fought to the best of his ability, without the aid of a superstar coach, an Olympic medal and a diet guru.
Many would have folded in the opening rounds, under the razzle dazzle. But he dug deep, pressed forward and threw leather. He beat khan up on the ropes for long spells and snatched the belt by the thinnest of margins.
Khan and his huge entourage were beaten-up, humbled and sent packing.
That cock-sure attitude pre Prescott had been simmering back to the surface for some time. Peterson put that back in check. He likely did Amir a favour, and saved him from the thrashing of a lifetime at the hands of Floyd in 2012.
The contrived "I don't blame Peterson, I blame the officials" line had no basis. It's not like the judges gave Lamont 10 rounds from 12 in a razor thin fight. And that is the worrying thing about it all.
The British press have ran the headlines "khan robbed" and a gazillion Facebook fans roared that khan hammered him, robbery etc.
The reality is when Khan was buckling when the fight was taken to him. He should have had those skill sets in his locker to have dealt with it, like Tim Bradley did - but he didn't.
Khan needs to analyse and face up to the real reason he lost against quite a basic operator - but I honestly don't think he will.
The raw materials are there, but I think the boxing brain is just not there. Sure that creates exciting viewing, but ultimately he won't fulfil his potential - or, more concerningly for his loyal fans , he has achieved more than he should have and that he'll never beat Tim Bradley and could even get stuffed hard by Brandon Rios who can definitely take a punch (not a mark after Murray fight) and loves to get macho with his hurtful punches.

Re: Happy that Khan lost his belts?
Khan is no draw in either country unless against a very attractive opponent (Barrera).
Kotelnik had less than 5,000 in the 20,000 seat MEN. They had to take him up to Newcastle vs Salita to draw a crowd. Malignaggi was a few thousand in the small MSG room. Judah wasn't a sell out, Maidana was around 5,000 in Vegas. Have ANY of his PPVs been a success? This is why he was in someone else's town, because people will not pay money to see the guy.
