Ike Ibeabuchi
What ever appened to Ike Ibeabuchi. He was an undefeated heavyweight who beat Chris Byrd, then never fought again. Does anybody know?

I consider myself fairly topical, and thus I am embarrassed to say I seemed to have missed his presence. Was he convicted of multiple rapes? On another post someone lists him as the 10th greatest heighweight of all time (and admits it is a stretch). Was he that good? Was he an Olympian? Someone told me he was a Frank Bruno who got lucky against Byrd. How would he fair against the current crop?

oh my god, please tell me where you saw that thread, and i will know to avoid that forum forever.
basically, ike had a hard jaw, good stamina, and an ok punch. he could box, hit, and because he was obviously a bit unstable the same crowd who worship tyson fell in love with ike and decided he was the greatest fighter ever.
he brawled with tua for 12 rds and won a decision in 1997. he was inactive due to craziness for a long time, driving his girlfriends son into a brick wall at 100mph becuase "devils were chasing him".
his next big fight was 1999 v byrd. he DIDN'T get lucky. he just moved right in on byrd, relentlessly, and walked through byrds slapping and opened fire, like any quality heavyweight would do. he iced byrd with a lethal uppercut in the 5th, byrd got up with drool over his head, and got hammered til the ref stepped in.
after that, ike went on some form of spree attacking vegas showgirls, and got locked up. in court they discovered the guy was nuts. so long ike.
overall he was entertaining, but didnt punch as hard as they make out, also kirk johnson would mop the floor with this guy in sparring. ike was a dark character which is why he is so overated in the US, but he was very one dimensional, and would get dealt with at top level.
dont worry mate, you will eventually get to see ike fight, he'll be in his 40s losing 4 rd decisions to journeymen.

I've only seen the Tua fight, but Overhand is spot on. Ike's not an all-time great, but he'd be in the top 5 or so right now. The fight with Tua broke the all time Compubox record for punches thrown in a heavyweight fight. Something like 1500 between the two. Ike was throwing 95 punches a round for the first 4 or 5 rounds. His chin looked good, as he was taking some tought shots from Tua.
