Do wins and losses matter any more?

Dereck Chisora, after losing 2 of his last 3 fights, is about to challenge for the heavyweight title of the world.

I can only conclude that winning and losing are no longer important in boxing, in fact I can't work out what is important these days.

If it no longer matters who wins and loses a fight, what exactly is the point?

You are rout to question why the loser of the recent EBU title fight is next in line for a shot at the world title. Weird.

Chisora clearly beat the guy who was widely perceived as the number 1 contender and also makes for a fun fight.

He absolutely deserves a world title shot, especially in this moribund division. Who else is there? Klitschko/Arreola II? Please God no.

Yeah, it's been apparent for a long time that a loss - albeit usually an honourable one - sometimes gets a fighter more leverage than a win.

Crazy.

Boxing is in the unfortunate situation that any governing body which would set out to embrace merit and decency has to turn down money in order to do so. None of them has the integrity to do this.

If it no longer matters who wins and loses a fight, what exactly is the point?

I firmly believe that Dereck Chisora is the reincarnation of French philosopher Albert Camus. Chisora/Camus has finally enabled boxing to reach its philosophical zenith. A perfect illustration of the absurd meaninglessness of life. It's a beautiful moment.

I suppose if you accept the futility of existence, discarding all notions of common sense and logic, boxing is a great sport to follow.
