Carlos Monzon vs Bernard Hopkins

Post by ELA »

Carlos Monzon vs Bernard Hopkins:

Scheduled for 15 rounds, I think Bernard would have problems with Monzons unusual style. However, I think he would oupoint him over 15 very tough rounds. I think it would have been a very dirty and physical fight.

Any Thoughts?

I'm goin the other Way Monzon wins this with no need for a rematch. Good fight but no knockout. Hopkins should not be in the top 5 all time because I don't think he fought in an era with the kind of competition that would put him there.

His best wins came from guys who's best days were in lighter divisions after they were past their prime. Otherwise its Antwon EcholsX2, Eastman, Robert AllenX2 Syd Vanderpool, Simon Brown. Not a great testing field for my money. Granted he never ran but the talent pool was lean.

Longevity yes but quality opponents?

RJJ beat him which is no shame. I don't think he was truly tested. If he comes back and whips Taylor that change things a bit I would say. It changes things a lot if he continues to thrive.

And yeah I'm mad at him because he lost me money on Jermaine and his trash talking gets old. But I'm trying to keep that in perspective.

But racking up a W over Monzon? No way.

I can't see there being a stoppage. I imagine a slow start from both men and a tactical battle with both men standing off trying to counter the other. I think Monzon would find a way to win simply because has been tested more often than Hopkins.

Both men will want to try and get the other to lead and the one who can impose his tactical will on the fight would be successful. Overall a close decision for Monzon.

If it's 15 rounds, Monzon wins by TKO around the 13th round. Hopkins compares to Monzon but I think of the two a tip top shape Monzon wins 9 out of 10 times. Monzon's just too good.

I think Monzon by a reasonable majority, by the time Bernard had worked him out i predict Monzon to have built up a solid lead on the cards and hold on for the win.
