The only poster in this entire thread who has suggested Ashira might be an alright opponent for Calzaghe is Freiheit.

I'm not defending any of it but there seems to be an uproar in this thread, who did you expect to see in the opposite corner?
Yes Kilburn, it's probably not people defending the match itself which has irked me...just the quiet acceptance by you, certainly, that someone who is totally undeserving of a shot at a world title gets one.

You are certainly more pragmatic than I am. I still get outraged at garbage like this.

Boxing must cause you some sleepless nights mate, undeserving shots happen all the time. There are bigger issues around the sport than this.

You are right there. A bigger one is the conning of the general public/sports fan. Another is the shafting some TV companies have taken over the last few years by certain promoters/fighters...you can fill in the blanks mate! :TU:

If Ashira were being lined up as a legit title defence, a potentially tough fight, with no sure word on who the next challenger will be, then I'd be equally up in arms about the whole thing. Naturally.

But the Lacy fight IS being planned for 2 months later. If nobody believes that Calzaghe will actually go through with it then that's a seperate matter. You can't say whether he will or he won't. I think I'm pretty much the only one who thinks Calzaghe wants to and will fight Jeff Lacy in November, that's why I don't really give a flying fornicate who the opponent is in September.

Don't go and see the fight if you think it's that bad. I know I won't.
