Who beat the most undefeated fighters

Post by Controversial »

So what fighters beat the most 'previously undefeated' opponents? To make it easier only pick opponents that had at least 10 wins under their belt, that way it will cut out all the fighters who feasted on debutants or fighters with records of 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 etc...etc....

Larry Holmes had 10 wins but I'm sure there are others with higher. Interestingly 5 of Holmes 6 defeats were to unbeaten fighters as well, Spinks (27-0), Spinks (28-0), Tyson (32-0), Holyfield (27-0) and Nielsen (31-0).

Only Oliver McCall had a losing record when he beat Holmes (25-5)

Holmes wins against at least 10-0 fighters were -

Ray Mercer 18-0
Carl Williams 16-0
David Bey 14-0
Marvis Frazier 10-0
Scott Frank 20-0-1
Tim Witherspoon 15-0
Gerry Cooney 25-0
Renaldo Snipes 22-0
Leroy Jones 24-0-1
Ossie Ocasio 13-0

Done a bit of digging and it looks like Holmes has this won anyway, probably explains the lack of replies.

None of these beat Holmes...but I will continue my search!

8-RJJ (Thomes 24-0, Toney 44-0-2, Brannon 16-0, Griffin 27-0, Harding 19-0-1, Gonzalez 27-0, Kelly 28-0-1, Hanshaw 21-0-1)

7-Wladimir (Najee Shaheed-16-0-1, Zoran Vujecic-14-0, Eliseo Castillo-18-0-1, Samuel Peter 24-0, Calvin Brock-29-0, Sultan Ibragimov-22-0-1, Ruslan Chagaev-25-0-1)

6-De La Hoya (Bredahl 16-0, Campanella 20-0, Hernandez 32-0-1, Gonzalez 41-0, Quartey 34-0-1, Sturm 20-0)
6-Cotto (Maussa 17-0, Pinto 21-0, Torres 28-0, Malignaggi 21-0, Quintana 23-0, Foreman 28-0)

5-Calzaghe (Delaney 21-0, Hughes 12-0, Veit 30-0, Lacy 21-0, Kessler 29-0)

Again not in with a shout but interestingly Bradley has had 3 unbeaten opponents in his last 4 bouts (Peterson, Abregu and Alexander)

Tyson Fury has beat 4 undefeated fighters already in only 17 fights. Not a bad % :TU:

This is very telling how spoonfed so many fighters have been over the last few decades. Really shows how deceiving win/loss records can be. It would be interesting if we could find someone from before the 1960s who had 5 more wins over undefeated opponents (with 10 or more wins.)

I gave up looking at the pre-1980's guys, despite fighting hundreds of times I don't think I saw a single one combined between SRR, Pep and Moore...

Here is match numbers wise with Larry. And it has one legend contained within it. (Though that's about all it has)

Question: Who beat the following fighters:

Frank Hatfield 0-0-1
Al Dublinski 0-0-0
Deacon Logan 2-0-0
Leonard Dugan 5-0-0
Rinaldo Anslaoni 2-0-0
Dogomar Martinez 24-0-1
Mike Dibiase 0-0-0
Professor Roy Shire 0-0-0
Kid Pocohuntas 0-0-0
and.........
wait for it..............

Harold Johnson 24-0-0

Ok and he lost to two undefeated fighters. Patterson and Ali.

He be the man Yance......

I thought Ezz's record might contain a bit of spice for this conversation but surprisingly he only beat 2 maybe 3 undefeated fighters along the way.

As a post script, this will come as a surprise to our resident experts, GI and Saad, but each of those fighters that Archie defeated would have gone on to become great fighters had he not taken the spirit out of them so early in there careers. So it's not fair to discount his record as not being equal or greater than Larry's.

How do I know this you ask?

I referred to the Akashic Record, the final word in all matters debatable.

I just came from Wikipedia where they say BoxRec has Archie rated the best pound for pound.

btw, anyone else here been through Benoit, Mississippi, the Moore birthplace? I have, a couple of years ago. Population, 611, per 2000 census. The 1956 movie, Baby Doll, was filmed there.

That area of Mississippi is considered the birthplace of the blues. I bet Archie would have made a great bluesman.

Actually, (As Oscar would say) Patterson had lost to Maxim before he fought Moore. Though it was a bad decision.

Moore did beat some interesting names, didn't he? A Deacon, a Professor and a Kid.
