Bellew - I will force a rematch with Cleverly

Tony Bellew has expressed his frustration over his failed attempts to get a new year rematch with WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly.

The pair went head to head in October with Cleverly lengthening his unbeaten record to 23 fights by retaining his title, but Bellew claims they had a gentlemans agreement to put the fight on again if it was close-run or a split decision. Instead, Cleverly will fight an un-named opponent in Wales next month.

Bellew said: "I feel like I've been stitched and done over, I've cried for a rematch but he's the champion and he has all the power but this is professional boxing. I'm going to do something about it, in the end I will force a rematch, I know for a fact I am going to be a world champion."

This has all stemmed from that clown Vince saying that Nathan destroyed Tony and didn't get out of first gear. Respect had been shown by both fighters since the first encounter and now that tool has set of the war of words again.

We've talked about Edison Miranda as a possible opponent for Cleverly and said what a challenge he would pose in his own way. Bellew v Miranda would be an equally good fight and it would push Bellew up the WBO rankings. If he wants to force a rematch then fighting guys ranked by the WBO is the way to go.

There's no compelling evidence to justify Bellew's calls for a rematch. Maybe down the line but not now. It was a run of the mill encounter with minimal drama. I'm not interested in Part II. Both guys would be better fixed looking elsewhere.

Not sure what Bellew means by being stitched up, but he is making himself look a bit of a div.

Thing is Miranda has been beaten a few times but who has he lost to? Arthur Abraham back when he was at his peak. Kelly Pavlik just before he won the Undisputed Middleweight crown, and Andre Ward and Lucien Bute. Hardly guys your gonna see at the mugs r' us Christmas party.

Lets be honest - Edison is well past his sell by date.
He has not shown he is getting better as he moves up the weights .. he still loses to world class guys each time.

That said. He would still want a decent payday to come over here. No way does fWank spend that type of money and that name on Bellew before Cleverly.

Re-reading through old BN of that time - lots of the 'experts' were giving Michalzewski a legit chance if he ever fought Roy Jones .... back then it would appear Jones didn't want to travel.

As for the WBO title being a paper title...
I would agree, but also add, all world titles are nowadays.
With too many champions at one weight. The belt means very little.
Nowadays it really is the fighters making the belt.
