I need some hardware (VHS)

Ok. I asked for this a long time ago so now going to ask again as this is worth it for you guys.

I have over 2500 fights on loads of VHS tapes. The VHS recorder I have only has a scart lead on the back so to connect to a tv I need to use a scart only. I can play this on my tv no probs and enjoy the vast amount of footage I have.

Right, what I want to do is connect my VHS recorder to my pc so I can pull them off and post the best possibly to Youtube. I can assure you I will have something for everyone. I have nearly every fight that was shown on TV and early days of Sky, Screensport, Fightnight (Tyne Tees) V2000 (German tv) Second Out (Yorkshire tv) I confident in saying I am possibly the only person on here that has fights you could be looking for, domestic and world from the late 80's to maybe the mid to late 90's.

All I require is some kit to connect to my pc, remember my VHS only has a scart at the back and no plugs. Once this is found I can begin to get my shuff online.

Get a lead that converts from Scart to composite or S-video, or whatever inputs your PC will be capturing through.

Couldn't you use a dvd recorder and then pop the dvd into your laptop.

Sounds like a lot of hard work.

I can do this yes, but the cost of a dvd vhs recoder is like 200 quid.

I have something similar to this EasyCap its called but the sound quality is very poor also I could only ge tit to work with my VHS camcorder, I couldnt get it to work using a VHS recorder.

What kind of scart was he using? he flicked a switch on this i think??

I use easy-cap , it can be brought on ebay (although they may be dodgy chinese ones) , but the one i got works ok.

You have to fiddle with settings on comp for volume etc, but i get good enough copies to my pc.

what i have to do is reocrd it onto pc, then use windows movie maker to shrink the size of the file.

there's a vhs/dvd recorder combo here mate for £100, for all the fiddling and config it'd take transferring from vhs to pc I'd just go for something like this.

I have about 1000 discs some in cases some boxed I'm under instructions from the Mrs they have to go...if anybody wants them and are willing to collect/pay the postage they're free to a good home.

There's probably somewhere in the region of 3000/4000 fights/docs and most are of a high standard.

You dont need hardware, you need a fire extinguisher and a direct line to the fire station.

If you had an incident whereby one of those tapes caught fire you'd probably blow your house up with that much cellulose in a room.

And converting to CD is not much use. they deteriate faster than VHS tapes are being rapidly phased out.

You need a few TB's of hard drive, rip them and convert them to Xvid or MKV or similar to maintain their quality and reduce their file sizes and then your sorted.

Or buy a premium account with Megaupload and simply upload them online.

Yep, that's the best way to go. Rip as MPEG2 then convert to xvid.

It's a straightforward process. Get yourself on Amazon and buy a unilateral phase detractor. Simply crank the inverse reactive current up to 2.5GHz and launch your chosen software on start-up - don't wait for your regular operating system to initiate (press F9 repeatedly when you turn on your machine, not before). Once you've done that, plug in your VHS and insert the first tape. From there on in its all a matter of conductors and fluxes. But remember: synchronicity is the key factor throughout the process. Don't concern yourself too much with the modial interaction between the tapes and the machine, providing you keep your eye on the capacitive duractance and magneto reluctance everything will be sweet. Any issues PM someone else.

Ive tried that, the problem was hitting the f9 key, this only gave me bios information. Also there was no information regarding the magneto. Which version are you using?

If you have say 3hrs on each tape, then it would take you over a year to rip them all.

That's going 24/7.

You'd need a Dazzle unit from Pinnacle, then you will need a scart to component video converter (£5 off eBay).

Or you can go for an Aver capture card ( militia-channel ) and then rig 4no VCR into that if you want to cut back on time. That would cost around £600 all in.

Then you'd def need to convert it to small file size, from the raw VHS capture.

Basically I would get your top 50 tapes, then search to see if the fights are readily available to view / download and only if they weren't , would I keep them.

Then bin the rest.
