Who was better?
Who was better?
usual patented mugabi rules of clarity apply. The sole criterion is who on their best day would beat the other on their best day. Achievements should only be used as evidence to back up that sole criterion. If the fighters fought when one was faded and the other at his peak, reconsider them here when both are at their peak.

Re: Who was better?
Potentially I would of thought Morrison & Biggs. As it turned out I would say Chagaev scrapes it.
1 Chagaev
2 Morrison
3 Bonecrusher
4 Biggs
5 Adamek
Although to be fair Adamek could improve.

Tough one, I voted for Morrison. I think Smith would probably stop him, but I'd take Tommy confidently over the rest of them and Smith would more than likely drop decisions to 2 of the other guys.
Re: Who was better?
I'd take Briggs. He made it far enough with prime Tyson to make me believe he could weather the early going vs. Morrison and Smith. The rest he out boxes from round one.

Re: Who was better?
BC loses a dec to Biggs and stops the rest which would give him the best record in a round robin with this group.
Re: Who was better?
i go with bonecrusher.....followed by morrison.
Biggs is so difficult to assess...he didnt have much of a prime as a pro....he didnt fufill 20% of his potential....man he was a beautiful boxer though, so smooth, elegant. He had heart and courage too....that first round against Tyson said it all.

Cast your vote. I think Smith will need all the votes he can get with this crowd.mugabi wrote:i go with bonecrusher.....followed by morrison.

Morrison. Bonecrusher was shit outside of a big punch.
Edit: I'm a bit drunk, is he garnering votes in jest?

Re: Who was better?
bonecrusher was determined and durable too. He could come back late in a fight. Durability is a key thing amongst this bunch. Adamek is too small and doesnt have the talent and skills or punch of the 80s guys. Morrison and Biggs talented athletes that they were were not particularly durable. I know its difficult to judge biggs on that score since his peak was arguably as a amateur and drugs had already done for him very very early in his career but he was slapped around a lot throughout his career and often the tyson thing aside it didnt take much slapping, the mason loss was a one punch thing...so bonecrushers durability and noted ability to take a licking and keep ticking and pull out the win is a big factor.

Re: Who was better?
Pretty much how I see it. Smith certainly was not great, but he was the best of this group.

Re: Who was better?
If all Bone could do was punch, then that doesn't say much for Larry Holmes, because Smith gave Holmes a pretty good fight while it lasted.
Smith wasn't great, but he actually had decent speed for a big guy and was able to throw good combinations. Certainly nowhere near an ATG, but I don't see Ali or Louis on that list.

Re: Who was better?
If we were just talking 4 round fights, it'd be Morrison hands down. But his stamina was atrocious and he had a very suspect chin.
I voted for Smith, although I can see a lot of these guys beating the other. Not the smoothest boxer but he was strong, durable, packed a knockout punch, and had OK skills. I see him knocking out Morrison, and keeping Chagaev off him with his jab and straight punches from the outside. And if Adamek had issues with a washed up Grant, he'd certainly get hurt and have serious issues with a peak Smith. I do think he'd lose to Biggs but I think Biggs gets stopped by Morrison.
So my list:
1) Smith
2) Biggs
3) Morrison
4) Chagaev
5) Adamek
