Alex Leapai vs Kali Meehan

Post by 'Frilla »

Should be a good fight, both blokes look a step up or two from our other heavyweights, so its only right for it to happen.

Im interested in your opinions, so, when it happens, who wins?

Leapai targets Meehan
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

WBO #15 heavyweight Alex Leapai has targeted fellow Australian-based IBF #7, WBA #9 Kali Meehan to settle who is the best heavyweight ‘Down Under. Leapai said.” I respect Kali Meehan and what he has done in the ring at world class level in bouts in the USA. Kali challenged Lamont Brewster for the world heavyweight title and many thought he deserved the decision but he lost by split decision. Kali beat Evans Quinn in 2010 but lost to Ruslan Chagaev in a WBA eliminator. My wins over very good Americans Travis Walker, Owen Beck, Darell Wilson and also Peter Okhello from Uganda are more impressive than Kali’s recent victories. My manager Noel Thornberry has a promoter ready to stage the Leapai vs Meehan. I challenge Kali to fight me and settle the argument who is the best Australian heavyweight. It will be the first time two world rated Australian heavyweights have clashed in the ring.” (Leapai was born in Samoa and Meehan was born in Fiji but both are long time Australian citizens.)

I question whether Leapai can go the distance but of course there is a question mark over Kali's age...

I voted for Meehan by KO, I reckon he might outlast Alex and score the stoppage. Wouldn't bet the house on it though.

I agree with Leapai running out of gas early in the fight. A Meehan KO looks most possible.

Then again, Meehan's age and the lack of being active makes me not entirely sure.

I went with Meehan via decision..

Meehan has a KO percentage of 73.81, Leapai has a KO percentage of 64.52.

Whoever won, something tells me it would end early. As for Meehan's age, ask Iron Rhino if he thinks Kali is old.

They both have "That" punch that ends the night early, so it makes it a very interesting fight.

Leapai would need to pace himself, and Meehan would at times need to tie Leapai up and frustrate him.

The fight would need to happen in 2012.

I'll go with Leapai by 5th round KO, however not confident.

Leapai gets stopped early in my opinion. Meehan even at his age is a step above everyone else in this country.
Leapai is to easy to hit and meehan has bigger power than anyone he has faced.

This is a tough fight to pick. Both hit hard enough to turn things around in an instant.

I think Kali boxes him at will, wearing Alex down and then takes him out around round 5.

Alex has improved mate, I just thought Alex was rocked badlly by Walker and Meehan is a better fighter with more power. If he hurts Alex he will finish him.

Yeah, if this fight happens inside the next six months, I will break my self imposed triple B (Boxing Betting Ban) and put money on Meehan to stop Leapai. Would be a good stoush while it lasted though.

No disrespect to Alex intended but Kali easily for me.

Still think Alex gets hit to much and anyone that can get through a couple of his onslaughts (as Kali would) will end up outpointing or KOing him late

Well it appears kalis opponent has pulled out of march 7. How about leapai, demori or welliver make a phone call and step up to face meehan. A win for either of these guys would be huge, if they think they are in with a chance. Would make a good card great.

I have read on Eastside, Leapai was offered the fight with Meehan but turned it down. Not sure how much truth is in that as a lot of things on there are bullshit.

Alex offered Kali the fight on a card Kali's already on ??Sounds positive if they both want it, I just hope it happens. Demori has spoken about being held back and not getting opportunities, well this could be his opportunity. Alex has stated he would love the fight as has Chauncy. Its 8 weeks away so hopefully one of these fights can be made.

Kali's new opponent is being negotiated with at the moment. It's none of the 3 mentioned, but will still make an exciting fight if it comes off.

I dont think Meehan would take a fight with Alex, the chance of getting KOed would be to much of a risk for Meehan.
