Welliver VS De Mori
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
I 100% agree. For this fight to get its max potental we'd both need to be at our best, and unless he pulls a Mayweather and is not affected by layoff, he does need a tune up or 2.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Think the reason Mayweather can pull a Mayweather is cause he is always in shape, there is no lay off.
Now I'm not saying Mark is Mayweather in skills or anything (before someone jumps down my throat) but fitness wise and professionalism wise he would go close.
Yeah Mark has been out of the ring for I think 27 months now, but in that time he has trained 5 days a week, EVERY single week bar holidays here and there, even then training where ever he has been.
I think we will find come Nov 20 Mark has actually improved over the last 2 years and of course he will have actual fight rust to deal with, but skill, speed and fitness wise think we will see Version 2.0 make Hicks look silly.
I do agree that Mark needs a couple more before a fight with Chauncy, not because of the rust, but because Mark needs to become relevant again before I would think Chauncy would even think of looking at the fight.
Bring on the 20th.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
if the money was right, i think chauncy would sign the contract today.
just look at meehan vs chagaev. it took kali 8 rounds to start landing some decent shots. his timing was terrible. a sparring partner full with headgear tends not to be as elusive as when in an actual fight. as soon as kali even thought about what punches he was gunna throw, ruslan was already moved out the way.
so a couple of 3-6 round fights would do wonders for mark, before aiming too high, imo.
does not want too many hiccups when finally getting back into the ring.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
De Mori first & second warm up fights should be with Welliver, wtf how long should eighter fighter make the boxing public wait to see good heavyweights from the south pacific fight. Short memeries you lot never saw Rose V Famo, Tony Mundine V Sharky Ramon.
The bottom line is there boxers ( entertainers ) get out there and do there stuff, entertain the boxing public, and im one of them something like they do in MMA. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

And thats where boxing is all wrong can only fight boxers Don King approves of is BS.
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Anybody hear what Marks plans are after surgery? I plan on a few NZ shows in the beginning of the year if he's available.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
I'm getting pretty sick of hearing call outs that never come thru, actually being a member for some time now, there are particular fighters who just keep calling out people, but have no follow thru.
Mark please only fight out of Australia or the US or neutrally in other countrys, don't travel to other countrys whose existance seems to be about sticking it to an Aussie, you've been wronged once there before.
I would rather see you fight other top Australian fighters, like a mate of mine who's just came back, 1 fight at a time and lets see if the callouts keep coming.

This isn't a call out. This is me asking what he is doing and if he has plans. We have a fight to get through tomorrow night but wanna have the Jan 21 fight filled pretty fast so I can prepare good for it.Hounddawg wrote:I'm getting pretty sick of hearing call outs that never come thru, actually being a member for some time now, there are particular fighters who just keep calling out people, but have no follow thru.

We have offered to other Oz fighters but they do not wish to fight in NZ. Mark has shown he has no problem fighting in NZ, as he has on a few occassions.
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Mark doesn't post on forums anymore mate. Finally got tired of all the haters/trolls etc.
Best buzz his mangers. Surgery went fine yesterday and as you said he has fought in NZ before. Just be careful what you wish for mate, hard to hit someone so fast you can't see him :) Seriously though Chauncy all best, I respect what you are doing.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Had a fight tonight. Fought Galen Brown who I have beaten before. He was a late replacement for my opponent who fell out late. I won by DQ in the 7th. I hurt him every round, badly, but he held nonstop. I feel I had the worst ref in this fight. Brown should have been DQ'd many rounds earlier. I'd land 1 and he'd hold, for long periods of time.
Either way, with no injuries I feel this keeps my January 21 date in New Zealand alive and hoping Marks albows will be 100% by then.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Fitness, really?
Fitness will never be an issue for Mark.
Elbow wise and if Welliver is the course he wants to take right now is the question.
After the Mark's last fight he was speaking of wanting to fight Alexander's manager Damon Reed next so I am guessing that is his current thought.
Who knows though, personally I think it makes sense as a good fight for both.
For Mark, cause of Chauncy's rank, record and little chance of being KO'd.
And for Chauncy, cause Mark always comes in shape, brings the most publicity of any Aussie HW around, will make the fight exciting and because Mark has been out so long people THINK he won't be ready, therefore less of a threat.
For me I think it would be another KO win for Mark inside 6. After breaking Chauncy down with body shots and being to slick for Chauncy to land enough punches to worry him it would go very similar to how the Alexander fight did.
Nothing against you Chauncy and as I said, respect what you are doing, but Mark is going to be a bit to much for you to handle IMO if the fight can get made.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
its fine to be fit in the gym, but after 2 years of inactivity, its a different thing when somebody is hitting u back for 12 rounds.
his timing etc.
just watch kali meehan vs chagaev. after 2 years without a fight, his timing was terrible. chagaev was seeing kali's punches before kali had thrown it, lol. kali missed him with some embarrassing shots. but later in the fight he was getting much better and was landing some more decent shots.

What's the story? He got a decent amount of people come down to see him fight (After a 2 year exile). Or is he still with Don King?.
People bring money - And people came to watch De Mori (Unlike some-one(or many) we know.
.
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Yes it was the first 'Dominator' promos and yes he is still with King. Finally got tired of all the waiting (like everyone else) and is taking his future into his own hands.
I agree he got heaps of people down to his show and IMO has a different feel to other boxing shows. More of an enterainment feel coming from most of the tables not being sold to primarily 'boxing fans' but 'entertainment fans'.
Look forward to seeing him back in he ring hopefully around March/April.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Mark re-enters WBC at 38 after his 2.5 years off.
After he dispatches of Damon Reed in March, has some titles to his name, Chauncy sitting at #6.
Interesting.

If he moves up in the ranks after the Reed fight then maybe we can fight for the WBC Silver title???Totalpac wrote:Mark re-enters WBC at 38 after his 2.5 years off.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Chauncy, did you end up getting someone for 21 Jan? Couldn't see anything on Boxrec.
