how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
diaz is a former world champion , crowd pleasing fighter who is never in a dull fight , he is looking for 1 last shot (think he said its his last year in boxing) , burns needs a good opponent well a much better one than what cleverly got.
the WBO also have diaz at number 12
styles make fights and i think this one could be just as good as the katsidis fight

Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
I'd be happy with that. I think it would be a good scrap
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
He coming of a ko loss is that acceptable opponent for Burns?

ko loss in a great war though , much better than the some untested african fighter
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
Burns would beat up Diaz on points. Diaz is a poor man's Katsidis. Without the Australian's warrior's power.
Not a terrible match up, but not a particularly good one.
Julio Diaz would be a more intriguing match up in my opinion. Diaz's chin can let him down in the big fights, but I aint sure Burns has the power to worry Diaz's chin. Julio is a far better boxer than David. Can he make the weight though?

His chin held up a whole lot longer to Pacman's punches than Ricky Hatton's did, it's not all that bad and I can't see Burn hurting him!
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
Sorry, I meant Julio Diaz's chin has let him down in the past. David Diaz has a concrete chin (or at least did). Burn's isn't a puncher, but I can only see a wide wide points win against David Diaz.... Julio Diaz is a better boxer than David Daiz and it would be a tougher fight to call.youngrell wrote:stujones wrote:Burns would beat up Diaz on points. Diaz is a poor man's Katsidis. another reason im saying david daiz is because he still has a decent rep , i dont think the scottish fans will buy into another untested fighter brought over for a beating.
it is his homecoming and burns one fight before the probably mitchell match.
diaz is capable and is an exciting fighter to watch , his rep and his standing as a former champion should make the fight sell much better

I wouldn't be singing from the roof tops if this was made...though I wouldn't be completely pissed of either.
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
I'd be amazed if Burns fought anyone at lightweight outwith Rees, Crolla, Murray and Mitchell. Even they will look like giants compared with whatever waste of space they bring in for his next fight. Its very clear that are no serious plans to make any kind of impact at the higher echelons of the weightclass.

Ahhh I see what you're saying now mate, and I agree Julio would be a better boxing match. Either would be a decent opponent for Burns in my opinion.stujones wrote:Sorry, I meant Julio Diaz's chin has let him down in the past. David Diaz has a concrete chin (or at least did). The money clearly isn't there for FW and BN at the moment, but surely they need to spend a little to get more subs by getting better fights? I suppose with the good domestic rivals at lightweight, Burns shouldn't find it as hard as Celeverly to get FW to draw a decent opponents.
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
Paulus Moses would be a good fight for Burns. He's got a very good record and I think he would fancy the fight. Burns would win on points.

Completely agree there.Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:I think thats a little unfair since his first fight at the weight was Katsidis and the vast majority of people on here thought he was gonna ruin Burns. Burns for me is one of the most improved British fighters of the past few years and i don't think fights against the likes of Rees, Mitchell, Murray or Crolla would be bad for him since they all have the all british showdown spin that will help sell it and personally it'd love to see any of those 5 in with each other.Trojans44 wrote:I'd be amazed if Burns fought anyone at lightweight outwith Rees, Crolla, Murray and Mitchell. You could say that Warren has no ambition for Clev judging by his matching but I think it's harsh on Burns. Don't really see why anyone other than Mitchell deserves to be in with Burns anyway, Rees at a push.
Let's see who they role out for him next. Surely if he makes a tough defence he'd be in line for JMM and a shot at the full title?

I can see Matthews be the fighter if he wins his next won early!fightfaninfrance wrote:Completely agree there.Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:I think thats a little unfair since his first fight at the weight was Katsidis and the vast majority of people on here thought he was gonna ruin Burns. Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
It's not harsh on burns at all. Convincingly beating katsidis puts him on the world map he should be building on that and making a push to fight the best in the division. Any of the above fights are massive momentum killers for a world class fighter. I don't understand the insular thinking of some fans.
Why do British fighters even bother bringing home belts when they only use them to play pass the parcel with undeserving challengers.

Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
It'll be Scott Harrison in an effort to make the Cleverly v Karpency fight look attractive.
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
I wouldn't be surprised at all if that fight happens in 2012.
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
David Diaz wouldn't be a good opponent. David was brutally knocked out in his last fight by a non-puncher, squeaked by with a MD over a mediocre opponent before that, and hasn't won a meaningful fight in over 2 years.
How about fighting one of the guys that beat Diaz, like Soto or Lundy?

Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
Fwanky mentioned in his most recent vitriolic outpouring of bile (his Sun column) that he's hoping Marquez vacates so that Burns is awarded the full title (without the need to fight for it) while the notes on the fight on the allegedly website state that Burns is looking to move up a weight to become a 3-weight champion this year.
So award of title vacated by Marquez, easy defence against hand-picked / in-house opponent and then vacate before having to get involved in any of that mandatory nonsense to go for a vacant/interim title at 140lb against someone no-ones heard of.
Shame - Ricky is a quality fighter who would be competitive against everyone at and around his weight.

Wooo - Soto would be a different prospect all together, I think he is very underated.

The guys you mention are all good fighters but Ricky is much better than them all and they all know it I'm afraid.Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:I think thats a little unfair since his first fight at the weight was Katsidis and the vast majority of people on here thought he was gonna ruin Burns. I agree Billy that's why I'm frustrated that these are his probable opponents. Where does burns go from here that isnt backwards?
Re: how would a ricky burns vs david diaz fight go down?
Juan Diaz would be a good fight - has he retired though?
I remember when all the world champs at lightweight were called Diaz - Juan WBA/WBO, Julio IBF and David WBC.
