Does anybody know that guy?

Post by Gruyff »

Anybody ever seen this "Black Giant" before? Probably he was a real boxer or wrestler back then...
The movie opened in 1968 and starred Eli Wallach, Terence Hill and Bud Spencer.

I wonder if it was heavyweight fighter Al Hoosman who at one time had been a sparring partner for Joe Louis
in ca.1950 ,I had read somewhere that after he had retired from the ring he went over to germany to make movies.
That was my initial thought when I first saw the clip.
The actor looks to be in his mid-40's at least,
and Hoosman is listed as 6 ft 5 inches tall.
Hoosman died in October 1968 at age of 49.

Al Hoosman was in another movie with Bud Spencer, but this guy in the youtube video from "Aces High" with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill is

LEROY HAYNES

He was a heavyweight boxer, who is also listed on boxrec.

I just realized, this is NOT the Leroy Haynes, who was a heavyweight boxer, but a heavyweight named Leroy Haynes, who was probably no boxer...^^ :DD :box:

THIS is the boxer Leroy Haynes, who was born in 1911:

The other guy was born in 1914 and lived in France.

Might be one and the same. Birth dates for folks back then were not as meticulously documented/circulated. No guarantees, but the cross reference material so far seems to make it possible them being a single individual. Or at least does not rule it out. He surely appears to have been able to afford the "commute" After the 30's. Maybe the misses had money? He would have had to have been a bit of a globe trotter until the 40's if they are one and the same.

If you wanna know what Al Hoosman looked like during his acting career over in Europe during the 1960's..
check out this movie from 1968 starring Lee Van Clief.
You can see Al Hoosman beginning at about 4:45 of this clip.
