I think Green's main problem was probably drug use, particularly the
PCP Angel dust, which he was arrested for a number of times particularly
days after the Tyson fight .
He starts to go into a pattern around early 1985.
Like his former trainer Joe Farriello once said.
Mitch Green's problem was that his career peaked at the same time as crack did.
The potential of Mitch "Blood" Green
Re: The potential of Mitch "Blood" Green
There is more info on the background of Mitch Green in that 2005 article
then anything I have read about him on the web.
Tyson's bout with Green on HBO,was to have been
Tyson's debut on HBO and part of a 3 deal fight with them,
so one can probably understand Larry Merchants
concern that Green pulls out of it just before
it was suppose to air live.

I wonder if the fight with Smith would have come off anywayBrutu wrote:After the Mike Tyson fight May 1986,Don King released Mitch Green from his contract early(it was to have been up to 1988).
later Mitch Green was scheduled to fight Bonecrusher Smith
December-13-1986
at Fayettville NC.However a week before that fight ,Tony Tubbs
who was scheduled to fight Tim Witherspoon in a rematch for
a title December10-1986,dropped out a week before and Don King offered Smith a chance at that title and Smith won it
Smith was supposed to get 35 thousand for the Green fight, and I guess
Green's purse was suppose to be the same,
so Green got didddly for it too, which probably even more embittered him
against King.I think he showed up at the Tyson-Smith press conferance
and chased Don King around.

Do you consider a jab a punch?

His jab was quick but not hard. He just wasn't that good . . the record speaks for itself.
Re: The potential of Mitch "Blood" Green
It would seem by October 1992,Mitch Green was no longer considered good newspaper copy. Here is a similiar article from May 1989.

The signs were probably written on the wall when Mitch had that draw with Robbie Evans in early 1981.He should've beaten Evans. As a amateur, he even lost to Alfonzo Ratliff, another fighter he should've beaten.
