HBO force Peter Quillin v Andy Lee after Murray & Barker....

Post by slapbangwhallop »

BoxRec goldenboy Darren Barker once again swerves Lee, new doyanne Martin Murray opted out of a trip to New York to face the Shannonsider and now it looks like HBO have issued Roach trained unbeaten fighter Peter Quillan and Lee a "shít or get off the pot" ultimatum to fight each other on the Macklin v Martinez undercard.

Pretty easy UD win for Quillan who i don't rate that highly but Lee just isn't world class.

I'd back Quillin heavily against Lee.

Quillin didn't look like a world beater against McEwan. Is he normally better than that?

The first time i'd seen quillin was against mcewan and i thought he looked average.
Reckon lee will be competative at the very least.

That is true but at the same time Quillin easily beat him wheras Lee was getting beat up and losing untill McEwan gassed out the last 2 rds.

Quillin is a bit like Mike Jones, good technical boxers but lack anything special or have that wow factor and i don't see either doing anything major in their respective divisions.

If this fight goes the distance, Quillin will get robbed, the Irish crowd will influence judges.

Not a loaded question Slap, but what's the basis for this? Was he offered the fight with good terms but turned it down?

He was offered the fight yeah and they were offered the fight when Barker opted to fight Belgacham insted for the EBU after the Frenchman was almost whitewashed by Lee in his previuos contest. What the terms were, I don't know, you'd have to ask DiBella or Eddie.

hold your horses, i thought martinez v macklin was on showtime, a rival network, since martinez badmouthed HBO...

hard to keep up with all this. ok, i've found confirmation

so if true, the undercard offers a compelling challenger to martinez (if martinez wins), in the lee-quillin winner. this latter is a great fight, both coming off decent wins over mcewan. whomever wins should be a very credible challenger.

just going back to the original post, i don't see them as avoiding lee. it just seems the money isn't right, both murray & barker probably feel they deserve more for a risky fight. not that i know how much they've been offered, but a second defeat in a row for barker would be costly enough, and he'd want to be rewarded as such

Quillin is a much tougher challenge then either Murray or Barker in my opinion. I've been watching him pretty much all his career as he used to be on all the John Duddy bills in New York.

Fair enough everyone has an off night i suppose and i'm probably not giving mcewan enough credit.
Quillins record certainley suggests he's a puncher.
Good card looking forward to it.

Barker just fought Sergio Martinez, but is ducking Andy Lee?

He's actually challenging Daniel Geale for the IBF strap. :TU:
