Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Excited about this fight pleased for matthew that he got a break after having to refuse to the rematch with sturm due to his excessive contractual demands...should be a great st pats day !

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Would have rather seen him in with Sturm again, where he has a real decent chance of winning a world title.
Can't see him beating Martinez and he's not getting any younger.

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
been a long while since the sturm fight, he should have had a warmup before now. fighter's inactivity is frustrating to say the least

The problem with fighting Sturm is that he wants half the pocket money off your first 3 children until they reach the age of 10 as well as 25% of any scrap gold you send into Cash Converters

think macklin puts up a brave effort but gets stopped late on

I can see it just having a similar pattern to the barker fight but macklin will have less of a chancediggler wrote:think macklin puts up a brave effort but gets stopped late on

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
I'm not sure how Macklin thinks he's going to win this, he can't box long like Barker and the power advantage lies clearly with Maravilla I can see him getting tagged trading with Martinez.
still good luck to him.
still good luck to him.
Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Macklin has a fighting chance,he is a lot better than Barker and Martinez is pushing on,might be an upset here!!!

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Macklin has a much better chance then Barker.
Barker never really threatened at any stage and as soon as Martinez steppedon the gas he folded.
At least macklin will attack. Might go out early but at least it will be on his shield. Certainly will pressure Martinez and go for the win.

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
im excited about the fight i think martinez wins but macklin gives his best before late stoppage
Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Disagree barkers style kept pressure on martinez without giving him much of a target, it stopped him attacking until later on the fight when barker was wearing down. I think macklin will be stood infront of martinez throwing high volumes of punches but will be there to be hit.slapbangwhallop wrote:Macklin has a much better chance then Barker.

Agree with that,Barker kept it neat and tidy early on which kept Martinez at bay for a few rounds.
Macklin's excellent performance against Sturm who's tactics were absolute pish early on seems to have flattered to deceive. If he comes out hooking and swinging his clubs he's going to lose big time.

How much are the tickets for the fight lads?
Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Macklin has more power than Barker, but you've seen Macklin on the floor also. Martinez certainly didn't look good against Barker at all.... not this P4P king people (including myself) have been harping on about.... did he take Barker lightly (he won't Macklin who is more of known quantity), aging, or simply overated a fair amount.
If that was Martinez at his best, then Macklin has a chance.... he now also has a vulnerable nose.... if Macklin can bust it early, then who knows.
I'm not convinced this is the best fight for Macklin.... I think he needs to build his US profile first before going for the big one. He is now known in the states.... his name has been mentioned a few times on HBO/Showtime when they talk about the Middleweight devision. Sometimes, your profile gets more known when you don't fight in the states.... perhaps he should get some "money in the bank" first before the all or nothing fight with Martinez.... an honourable, but deserving, loss might see the US media just shouting "another Middleweight gone... next".... as they seem to have done with Barker.

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
i don't think martinez can be called overrated, after what he did to dzinziruk, and williams, destroying both guys. improving on that tough win over pavlik, the heartbreakingly close, fight of the year defeat to williams and the robbery draw with cintron.
martinez didn't look great v barker, who was able to box moderately well without ever really threatening, neutralising without actually making a real argument out of it.
reckon macklin's direct approach, firey temperament (we know he has the gas now, after doing 12 with sturm), and solid skills make a fight out of this one - he could be a perfect foil to the speed and combos of martinez. when he gets going, martinez is the best combination puncher in the sport. this one should catch fire.
with martinez getting over the chavez jr/WBC bullshit, and fighting over showtime, he can stop dreaming baout dream fights (incl mayweather & pacquiao) and get on with his impressive middleweight title reign in a division full of good offensive fighters.

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Sorry Autobarn, I still aint convinced.... I still think he has issues pacing himself. Sturm won the 11th and 12th round on my card.... and Macklin was within a punch or two of being KO'd in the last I'm convinced of that. He had gassed.Autobarn wrote:i don't think martinez can be called overrated, after what he did to dzinziruk, and williams, destroying both guys. improving on that tough win over pavlik, the heartbreakingly close, fight of the year defeat to williams and the robbery draw with cintron.

Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
though it was one hell of a pace that macklin fought at. it can knacker you out hitting all those arms and gloves (see adrian dodson v winky wright, in which the brit ran out of steam). certainly better than in the EBU title fight vs the spaniard in which macklin gassed (suffering a chest infection, it must be said).
Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
Absolutely, and he came within 9 minutes of surving against Moore at an even higher pace. I am not questioning if he can do 36 minutes, but can he do 36 minutes at the pace he would like to do it. He still, hasn't seemed to learned to control himself - he's got to learn to take it easy.Autobarn wrote:though it was one hell of a pace that macklin fought at. it can knacker you out hitting all those arms and gloves (see adrian dodson v winky wright, in which the brit ran out of steam). certainly better than in the EBU title fight vs the spaniard in which macklin gassed (suffering a chest infection, it must be said).
Re: Macklin v Martinez confirmed!
i think it's all or nothing for macklin. he has to really carve something out for himself, make something happen so i think we'll see another really intense performance.
i really like martinez. the king of high risk fights. macklin is an attractive st paddy's day fight, but dangerous, coming off a loss, albeit a controversial one. martinez doesn't get any favours, and will probably have to fight his arse off yet again & produce something special.
this could be a really satisfying fight.

he's a pressure fighter, he has to fight at a high pace. he'll never be jabbing people's heads off and moving sweetly on the outside.stujones wrote:Absolutely, and he came within 9 minutes of surving against Moore at an even higher pace.
