ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
Very good opponent for Burns. Moses is a lovely boxer - very nimble on his feet, keeps his chin tucked in, has a snappy jab and a very accurate straight right hand. The only thing I'd be worried about for Moses is that he is tailor-made for a tall boxer like Burns whose jab will be the deciding factor, in my opinion.

Let's state the obvious Ricky's power seems to be developing wonderfully, he looked to be hitting Kat with plenty of genuinely hurtful shots.mrjr wrote:And was the big gloves oncurtis wood wrote:rickys got no powertry getting hit by him, it fooking hurts, i came home with 2 cut eyes and a fat lip, not bad for a non puncher

What's the big deal about power???? Look at wit he's achieved, without a string ov ko's. Good boxing ability, and speed will always beat power. Look wit happend to Martinze, Kat both had great ko records n they got dun. Says it all to me. Ps, av boxed Ricky in the Amatuers. He is a hurtful puncher, who cares alot of speed. Go on Ricky, from strengh 2 strength. Still think I won that Western District Title

As much as I'm a fan of Burns its unlikely that i will be attending.
Absolutely hate the venue at Braehead, no doubt that it will have another £50 minimum ticket price stamped on it to watch from miles away!
Good luck as always to Burns tho, can't see anyone beating him anytime soon (within reason)

Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
Can't understand how people are looking forward to this fight, I'm one of the few that subscribes to allegedly and i think its a poor fight. Ok Moses travelled and won a world title in Japan but it was against a very poor champ even by todays standards. His first defence was against a 39yr old and then Acosta the first decent operator he came up against spanked him. He then retreated to Namibia and beat three journeymen with 20 losses between them in the lead up to this fight.
Excuse me if I dont too excited for March 10th.

Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
He stopped very tough Andrei Kudriatsev three years before John Murray did it... in the Ukraine! Then won his world title in Japan. He's only lost once. He's a very good fighter, Burns should get credit for this – one of the best possible opponents outside the rival champs.
Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
I for one think this is a cracking fight. People that say Moses is over the hill are talking non sense. So he got beat on his home patch, does that make him less of a fighter? The guy is Ranked 4 by the WBO so he's the perfect choice of opponent. Burns will need to be at the top of his game to win this one, which am sure he will be. Burns 115-112.
Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
I don't know one person who doesn't like Ricky burns, his a true gent who's never in a bad fight, but sorry Billy Kevin Mitchell beats him all day long IMO,
Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
it does sound good. yet moses is quite old i believe, dropped out of the world top ten when stopped by acosta. a credible opponent, it SEEMS. if moses has something left it could be a punchfest between two fit, strong, windmill punching, octopus types.
final observation - burns could do with a legit world title, not a half title. wil he get upgraded or is it a case of shiit or get off the pot and fight marquez (will marquez even bother with this title and opponent at this stage...would he look elsewhere as he did when FW won purse bids to stage JMM v another scottish fighter, scott harrison?)
i almost hope for yuri romanov to return, get some form back and have a shot at hammering burns. a legit "brit-killer" with power, vs burns, with that toughness, awkward skill-set & now world class experience.

Good fight, Moses can bang a bit. Massive props to Burns and co, who could have easily taken a softer first defence after the tough Katsidis fight.
Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
Defence of what? It's an interim belt. Recognising this as a world title fight simply perpetuates the bollocks that has been fed to us over the years and provides ammunition for promoters to continue to avoid pitching their fighters against risky opponents while still coining it in from TV companies who insist on a fight being badged as for a title. I really like Burns, he's a great guy who has improved immensely and has shown in a number of outings that he belongs at the top table in his weight division....black panther wrote:Good fight, Moses can bang a bit. BUT
He is not a Lightweight World Champion. DeMarco, Vasquez and Marquez are the current world titlists, having beaten belt holders and defended their belts at the weight. Burns' promoter is hoping that Marquez vacates so Burns can inherit the title. Not win it, be awarded it. That's a shameful thing for a promoter to admit to the public.
Paulus Moses is a good, solid opponent, but lets not get carried away, this is not the great fight that some on here are claiming. Burns has ambitions of being recognised as a multi-weight world champion, so he should be seeking fights against other titlists, or other guys at the top - Abril, Guerrero, Lundy, Linares, Acosta. Have we become so used to mismatches and worthless paper defences that anyone who turns up with a pulse is regarded as a great opponent?
Depressing.

Re: ricky burns vs paulus moses confirmed
Okay, okay so it's not a genuine world title and I never said as much. But the point I was making is that Burns could have easily found a highly ranked, no name easier opponent like WBO #13 Sarfo Tyson. Instead he's picked a much more difficult fight. I wholeheartly agree he should be looking to fight Vasquez, Marquez, Demarco or Rios. But title aside, it's good match up.earsjohn wrote:Defence of what? It's an interim belt.
