Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
Just a thought that crossed my mind when I heard on the radio that GBP 'mysteriously' dropped Khan's appeal at the 11th hour. Maybe he's landed the big one, the Mayweather fight in May? Is that date even still on, last I read FMJ's prison sentence had been postponed till after the May 5th date? Or was that bollox? He could be in jail now for all I know, I lost track a few weeks ago on what's happening.
Anyway, must be a bloody good reason he's not pursuing his crusade for justice against Peterson, after all the effort he's put into it.

you're saying Khan has been teabagging Mayweather?
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
Even if they had bagged Mayweather, I can't see him stopping the chase for Pac. I'd suggest their pockets have been lined to drop the claim. Petterson and Khan will both leave the situation with a belt and everyone comes out with some positives.

Or maybe Khan has had a dose of reality, and realised he was beaten by the better man - and a rematch might just confirm that !
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
He had a knockdown not scored and lost by 1 point. Hmm, the better mantwenty six wrote:Or maybe Khan has had a dose of reality, and realised he was beaten by the better man - and a rematch might just confirm that !

the fact is, he lost, therefore his opponent, under the rules of engagement - was the better man.JDC wrote:He had a knockdown not scored and lost by 1 point. I find it highly unlikely he has the mayweather fight - how would that sell, given Khan just lost?
More than likely, they get a belt a piece - Khan doesn't need to risk losing to Peterson again, which damages his cred further, and both parties walk away.
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
At the end of the day, I want a rematch. It was a good close fight and that's what matters to me. Lets see them go at it again
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
Probably in much the same way that Mayweather-Judah sold despite Judah being spanked by Baldomir. The fight game is all about what earns the most and not who is most deserving. Based on that it'll be neither Khan nor Peterson, but Alvarez or Guerrero. (assuming it's not Pacquiao)jamesmcdonnell wrote:the fact is, he lost, therefore his opponent, under the rules of engagement - was the better man.JDC wrote:He had a knockdown not scored and lost by 1 point. As for "the fact is, he lost" - Chisora "lost" to Helenius recently, but I doubt I could find someone who thinks, under the rules of engagement, Helenius was the better man.
Peterson fought the more intelligent fight, Khan fought a particularly clueless fight. I'd probably have Khan winning 8 times in 10 in fights between the two.

The two being the one Peterson won, and the rematch if it happens !!!!!!!
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
Very likely if Khan fights the same fight.twenty six wrote:The two being the one Peterson won, and the rematch if it happens !!!!!!!
The first fight was close and competitive enough to warrant a rematch, simply for the entertainment aspect. I don't care who holds what belt - it's a fight between probably 2 of the top 3 at the weight and has proven to be a good watch before, so I want to see it again.

It's all about risk and reward.
Fight Mayweather massive pay cheque and even if he loses won't lose a great deal of credibility.
Fight Peterson, moderate pay cheque and lose - where does he go ?
If he beats Peterson, fair enough so it all depends psychologically where Khan and his team sit.

Yes, but the difference there, is that Chisora was clearly robbed, Khan was not. Khan lost a close one, Chisora lost one which the vast majority of observers thought he won.earsjohn wrote:Probably in much the same way that Mayweather-Judah sold despite Judah being spanked by Baldomir. Outside of the Khan camp, how many people think Khan was robbed?
Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
''The rules Of Engagement'' say you get a point for a knock-down. He lost by one point. That's a pretty clear case.

Wasn't a knockdown and neither should the other have been counted and you know it. "hmm"JDC wrote:He had a knockdown not scored and lost by 1 point. The rules of engagement also state that the referee decides what is and is not a knockdown. From what I have seen, the call for a knockdown was highly debatable.JDC wrote:''The rules Of Engagement'' say you get a point for a knock-down. He lost by one point. That's a pretty clear case.

This.
Also: I recently woke up & discovered that I have slipped into a parallel universe where Robert "I once got beaten up by Gamaliel Diaz" Guerrero is somehow being discussed as a "more lucrative" option for Mayweather to fight, than Olympic Gold medalist Amir Khan.
The world in 2012 is a v. strange place.

Do you honestly think Khan would beat Guerrero?Datsue wrote:mrbassie wrote:Wasn't a knockdown and neither should the other have been counted and you know it. "hmm"JDC wrote:

The only reason the fight might sell is one people will pay watch Myweather fight anyone and two the majority of the british public and boxing fans wanna see Arrogant Amir Khan get convincingly beaten as punishment for being a prize prickTJ77 wrote:Do you honestly think Khan would beat Guerrero?Datsue wrote:mrbassie wrote: Wasn't a knockdown and neither should the other have been counted and you know it. Re: Khan drops appeal - has he bagged Mayweather?
I had Khan up by 2 or 3 points to be honest but would have no truck with anyone who saw it differently.
It was a very good fight and a re-match would be a great fight.
However, and I'm a massive Khan fan, I think right now or in the next 6 months Petersen stops Khan in a rematch.
Until Amir learns to stand his ground and fight on the inside he will lose. In a rematch Petersen would just start from Round 1 with the same tactics that he did from about Round 3 onwards in the first fight and win handily.
Amir's speed was nullified in that fight and until he learns to rely on something other than this he will struggle.
I hope I'm wrong, as I say I'm a huge Khan fan.
What I would say some of the crap written and spoken since the fight has been terrible.
The facts would appear to be this - a man who had no right to be ringside at a World Title fight was seemingly allowed access to ringside, where he could talk to a judge and then was seen celebrating with Petersen's camp afterwards. If the roles had been reversed the amount of 'Golden Boy Fix' threads and 'Amir's a cheat bla bla' threads would have been in the dozens.
Lets not forget a similar scenario occured in the McCloskey fight where one fighters camp felt suitably hacked off as to query the fight, result and conduct of the referee et al.
Whats the difference here? Or is it because its that awful Khan and Golden boy lot with their money, power that we just cannot stand?
Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Every right to make the fuss they did and I would have done so in the same position.
To temper this slightly I believe Petersen has not gotten the credit he deserves for the fight which is a shame.

Yes, yes I do. As a matter of fact, I would be scared to lay money on Guerrero versus, say, Andrei Kotelnik. I really really do not see the big deal with Guerrero, never have. Obviously he's huge for a lightweight (fvck knows how he made feather) but all this talk of him being some globe-bestriding fistic colossus is mystifying to me, as is the idea that people see him as something more than a dreadful dogs-awful mismatch vs. Mayweather.
What has Guerrero done that makes you convinced he could beat Khan? Was it looking like shite against a 40 year old Casamayor (& getting sat on his arse in the process)? Or his helped-by-the-referee (punches to the ribs are apparently illegal & will get you a warning) effort against Michael Katsidis, a fighter whose stylistic resemblance to Amir is almost exact?
