Statement from Hennessy Sports marketing team

Challenge to Elliot Worsell and Clive Bernath

Following his recent, ill-informed, comments on the Internet, the marketing team at Hennessy Sports would like to inform Deptford light middleweight Anthony Small how press releases are put together by a professional promotional outfit.

Fighters are asked for their comments on a matter. These are then ‘paraphrased’ into a press release by a member of the marketing team. Before distribution this copy is then verified with the fighter in question.

Nothing is in anyway, shape or form fabricated. Unlike your claim that your team had attempted to make a fight for you against two time Southern Area champion and former European title challenger David Walker.

We believe that, in fact, your people are pulling your strings. Given that you clearly don’t like us and are one for a challenge we are happy to put the team who pen and publish our articles against yours for the good of charity.

We suggest the following friendly sparring matches over three, two-minute rounds to take place at a gym of your choice in London:

Jim ‘The Juice’ Curry (Hennessy Sports, marketing) vs Elliot Worsell (Journalist, SecondsOut.com)

Jason ‘Jack’ Frost (Hennessy Sports, marketing) vs Clive Bernath (Editor, SecondsOut.com)

Each participant is to donate £100 to the charity of his opponent’s choice.

This will leave the real fighting to the real boxers like you.

David has re-iterated that he will happily meet you in the future.

“Once Small has progressed beyond six rounders to Championship level and actually brings something to the table other than hype, I will oblige him,” said Walker. “Right now, I have bigger fish to fry.”

Truth of the matter is David is at championship level and Small isn't. Walker isn't the only experienced boxer to box a 4 rounder then move back into championship class in his next fight. David would receive approval from board to contest domestic honours and above, Small probably wouldn't.

Walker got knocked down against Clarke, yes, but he domintated other than that and was not hurt from what I could see.

It seems a bit unfair to only use a negative when Walker cleary has other good results too. John Humphry was streaking at the time David polished him off in two rounds, for instance.

Yes but the village green championship isn't worth much in this, or any circumstance...jesus christ, throw small in with walker, some people are acting like small isn't ready to step into the ring with a soft chinned human punching bag.

As usual, no disrespect whatsoever to the fighter involved, I admire walker's heart and grit, but the above is essentially what he is.

Grow up I say, mind you hasn't Midget Mick's team of twats got any real fights to publicise, oh no course not, No TV!!!!

Froch ("fresh from his US TV debut" that didn't get shown and Witter who get's ranked behind the oppoent he beat suggests this 'team' are doing a great job fopr their boy's)

Still when Walker gets yet another good hiding at least that one less to worry about.

Shame, Walker could have been a contender with a decent matchmaker behind him.

Walker's career positively took off when he joined forces with Hennessy.

He's got some genuine titles to his name, featured in some sparkling contests and got the opportunity to reach for the stars in a formidable challenge against the then EBU champ and now IBF champ Karmazin.

Could of been a contender ? He's challenging for British title. That officially makes him a contender.

Yeah me too and it's getting tiresome, i am not Hennessy supporter but he gets his fighters to contest meaningful titles and not alphabet shite and he gives value for money on his cards.

Boxingchat mentioned during a post on another topic that he was to be critical of all promotional organisations and that Sports Network's turn was coming next....well Boxingchat?
