Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
What do you all think about Vics chances here?
He was unimpressive in his last outing but when he is on, look out!
I hope he gets the KO and the Belt.

With the bantam weight division being as good as it is, how did the Japanese guy get a shot at the belt? If Vic loses this he has to hang em up, no excuses.

Because he's with Teiken Gym... and he can fight.Hounddawg wrote:With the bantam weight division being as good as it is, how did the Japanese guy get a shot at the belt? If Vic loses this he has to hang em up, no excuses.

Yamanaka holds the WBC Bantamweight title. He is unbeaten.Hounddawg wrote:With the bantam weight division being as good as it is, how did the Japanese guy get a shot at the belt? If Vic loses this he has to hang em up, no excuses.

Guys.... fark you're all easily fooled, look at the guys record and level of competition and the guy he actually fought to win the title.....wow is best described.
Buster, did you see how bad Vic was schooled in his last fight? If this novice fighter beats Vic, it's then time for Vic to consider leaving the sport, irregardless of what world title's being fought for. It's not like the WBC japenese champ is top 10 in the Division, and if you look at the guys record it's easy to see that the WBC title was once again bought by the promotional team that can secure the highest possible gross revenue for the WBC.
Vic has lost quite a few fights of late, age 36 at bantam is equivelant to a 40 year old heavy( please don't put Vic's resume up or state something completely freaking obvious in rebuttal), just stick to the facts of the guys expierence, opposition and consider other fighters far more worthy of a WBC belt than the 15-0-0 japenese fighter, and what it means if Vic loses.

Who has he beat to remain unbeaten? Undefeated means very little, as you know Brute, the ol timers of the sport use to think that you had to at least lose a fight before you could actually get a shot.
Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
Oh and he had a draw with this guy Kenichi Yamaguchi......good gate keeper but certainly no Vic Darchinyan.
Which is why, "Hang em up" is nesacary.
Cutman, why does the Teiken Gym stable entitle fighters to get a shot over these guys who clearly have the better resume, significant victories over top 10 fighters( Which Yamanaka has no significant wins as yet).
Al thes guys were far more worthy than the 2 that fought for the vacant WBC belt vacated by Donaire.
Vic D
Yonnhy Perez
Joseph Agbeko
Eric Morel
Omar Andres Narvaez
Just saying!

Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
he has lost 2 in last 7 fights. one of which was mares who won the bantam tourney ffs and vic was rorted in that.
2 of them have since won world titles, guerrero and rojas. and then there is arce before that. he has gone on to win 3 world titles. and mijares has since won a world title.
these r guys he has battered ffs.
give me a break he needs to hang them up if he loses the next fight.
if he is getting beat up time and again then yeah, but that's clearly not what has been happening.

Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
Thats great he's on a 5-2 streak mate, if you also go 1 fight back it's 5-3 and at Bantam weight, his record is 3-3, but thats not my concern nor my point.
However my point is simply he's lost all but 1 of his last 4 major fights and title challenge's and should he lose to 15-0-0 padded Japanese fighter, he's simply not the same fighter he was a few years a go and his record and form indicates that.
36 year, turning 37 old Bantam weight and the oldest in the weight division, time to hang em up!

The owner of Teiken Gym is Akihito Honda, the most powerful promoter in boxing in Asia.
He has strong relationships with the WBC and WBA.
That said, I wouldn't say Yamanaka has no significant wins. His wins over Iwasa and Yasuda were solid:
Yamanaka vs. Iwasa:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbSL0gTa ... playnext=2
Yamanaka vs. Yasuda:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CU9MEjNo ... D849C15263
Yamanaka was 34 W 13 L as an amateur, and a runner-up for the amateur national title.
He also beat Takahiro Aoh as an amateur.
I don't know if he has the toughness to withstand Vic's big punches (if Vic can land them), but he should make it interesting.

PS -- You may be confusing the Kenichi Yamaguchi that Yamanaka fought with the Kenichi Yamaguchi that knocked down Billy Dib a couple times -- they're different Kenichi Yamaguchis.
Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
Christian Esquivel had a 24-2 record (18KOs) and had won the final WBC elimination going into the fight.hearns wrote:Yamanaka did beat the 4th best mexican bantamweight to win the title.DD
Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
Yamanaka is no mug. The bantamweight division has always been strong in Japan and he beat one of the best bantams in the Americas to win the title. Have a look at Esquivel's record. The "had to lose a fight to get a shot" comes from when the mob ran the sport in the USA.Hounddawg wrote:Brute wrote:He is unbeaten.Hounddawg wrote:With the bantam weight division being as good as it is, how did the Japanese guy get a shot at the belt? His straight left is his signature punch, and I definitely see it landing on Vic.
Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
hounddog,
i bet u knew nothing about vic's opponent except from looking at him on this site. yet u say if vic loses he should retire.
just cause he might not have mayweather on his record doesn't mean he is not a great fighter. for a guy with only 15 fights, he has gone a long way. for this guys team to be going after vic so early makes u think they believe he is something special.
and considering vic should have been given the victory against mares who just won the bantam tourney ffs, i don't think there is anything to worry about regarding vics need to retire.

I stand corrected Brute, Esquivel was the fifth best Mexican bantamweight. Esquival won the eliminater by beating Garcia who is rated No. 108 bantamweight in the world and the sixteenth best Mexican bantamweight.

Mate you're really reaching! If they're going after Vic they're not thinking the Japenese fighter is special more that Vic is on the slide FFS ;;-).
Read Cutmans comments after my statement,(He has the biggest promoter in Japan).
And we do live in the world of youtube mate and i would say i would watch a fight a night on youtube, but thanks for your comment.
I watched Mares v Darchinyan and Mares v Agbecko 1 & 2, Mares is a much better fighter now, and irregardless of who thought Vic won, his record reads a loss to Mares and that was about 4 fights a go now for Vic.
VIC to retire if he loses, he's getting old mate, like i said Bantam weights aren't Heavyweights, and Vic would never lose to a guy like this in his prime(lets hope he wins hey).
Re: Vic D v Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC - Japan, 1 April
i don't care if it says vic lost on boxrec or not. if u r being objective, u know that vic was ripped off in the mares fight. that matters more imo.
so considering mares just won the tourney, vic has little to worry about how his form is.
the latest loss was similar to the agbeko loss. it was more an attitude that was detrimental to the result. vic has that tendency sometimes to forget the gameplan and become more primitive in his performance. but thats not moreno's fault, he was the smarter fighter on the night and deserved the win.

Yamanaka has height & reach by 4inches, if he can box, he beats Vic...everyone knows his weakness is tall boxers with speed. if yamanaka has fast hands it will be another UD loss to vic!

Yamanaka can box, and that straight left is a lightning bolt.

no probs, if he can take vics punches or avoid them, he wins UD.Cutman Scabbers wrote:RAB2204 wrote:Yamanaka has height & reach by 4inches, if he can box, he beats Vic...everyone knows his weakness is tall boxers with speed. if yamanaka has fast hands it will be another UD loss to vic!

if vic fights smart like he did against mijares and among many others, then i see him winning. he must not get impatient.
