I've seen Satchell a couple of times. Bit surprised that they put him in with Martin so early.

I liked what I seen of Satchell and he will develop into a better boxer than Edwards but it might be a smidge early for him in there against Martin.

We shall see.

It'd be good to see them put the winner in with Jamie Conlan.

John Donnelly then Paul Edwards & now Kevin Satchell,it went from 10 rounds to 6 rounds and now 4 rounds. All 3 lads are from liverpool.

I hope all the changes in opponents & Duration of the fights don't effect Martin too much.

Good luck tonight Martin, all the Best :box:

Satchell looked good if not a little raw, he got hit quite a lot. Before the fight I thought Martin was going to win a clear points decision.

Martin Power is managed by James Paisley and is offered fights. No one makes anyone take fights. They accept them and negotiate the terms with the promoter. No one is used as a punchbag, if they do not want the fights they can say no, I am sure James Paisley and James Paisley are happy with the terms they negotiated for a six round fight. Martin has no contract with Maloney Promotions is a free agent. We do however in our dealings with Martin treat him with the respect all sportsman deserve.

Good post mate, I'm sure Frank (who by the way has given him extensive fights by the way) appreciates it :shame:

Martin was a very good domestic level operator and to be fair he probably had his best nights in a weight division that was at least one weight higher than he should have been. His run of consecutive wins over Bayaar, Robinson, Nappa and Ward is a superb domestic level tally for succesful, tough fights but then he ran into Munyai who was levels above (Munyai's a brilliant, brilliant fighter and would have done so much more had he not fought at daft weights or been so inactive).

Those two fights took a lot out of Martin and in my humble opinion he should have jacked after getting stopped by Davies, who, for me, isn't on the same level as a prime Power.

He looked dreadful the other night, let's not mince our words. I know the opponent was a late change but it was the same gig for Satchell, whose a decent wee boxer and obviously ballsey but is also a six fight novice, not what a Power at his best would be having hard nights with over six rounds. A very decent match for Maloney to make for Power but I'd be surprised if Frank hasn't had a word about binning it. He's almost 32 which is ancient for 112/115 and has had a very long pro career with some tough nights.

If he wants to stick at it then fair play and good luck but unless he does something special he should stick to 4's and 6's against guys who don't bang.

This isn't meant to be a dig by the way. Just an honest assessment of a guy I've enjoyed watching over the years

Cheers mate, I know it's a bit of a rant and I've no problems with promoters taking flack but not when it's undeserved. Maloney's had a good working relationship with Power as far as I know and until I learn otherwise I think it would be a bit out of order to start accusing him of using his own ex-stars as punchbags. He deserves better than that, and Power doesn't deserve that assertion.

i think its age that has caught up with martin to be honest, ive never seen him take so many punches as he has in his last 3 or 4 fights. always a good warrior martin needs to know its time to call it a day, unfortunately the fighter is generally the last one to realise it!

o Excuses the other night not beat by the better man, I never thrown any Combination was looking for the big one shot. Frank is Right I did have the chance to say NO which I did a couple of weeks before told him that's a fight I don't want, so he got me Paul Edwards which we agreed but then the day before the weight in he pulls out, Kevin knew I was an opponent before this day :-? but I didn't. I took the fight as I got decent money and it saved the show.. My manager didn't have nothing to do with it I took the fight.. I boxed Bad No other way to put it, I am getting on for the weight and I Will decide what I want to do... Mr Pedigree ain't you a John McD man?

I agree I didn't box well at all the other night (not trying to take anything away from KS performance)..... I have sparring well and been training really hard, there's things that happen behind closed doors that people don't know but ain't making any excuses I got beat by the better Man on the night. Its been a year since i last fought and with someone my age and weight it aint good, i need to be kept busy and stay shape other wise there's No point me boxing any more im out again March 10th take it from there...

For me Martin, I think it sounds like your heart is in the sport very much still..... so I would rather you give it your absolute best now instead of letting the "what if" eat inside of you in the next years. That feeling of unfullfillment might actually be worst than any fight you have in the remainder of your career.

Try and be sensible about it, try and get a fight (if possible) on your terms.... and then hopefully you can fully assess if you've still got it or not.
