If you were so "hurt" by the comment why has it taken you nearly 4 months to realise ?

Simply hadn't read the thread for ages then it popped up when tear up posted today. I'm not hurt am just asking for an explanation, as I post under my real name. Is that ok with you, 26 lol?

Well i havent seen it, but i gather that people are offended that SKY over-hyped the fight they are broadcasting?

And the answer to this is to copy Setanta's approach?

Setanta being the station that went bankrupt, right?

Just so we are clear.

Smith is a cheerleader the sooner they are rid of him the sooner we hear honest appraisals instead of the Sky party line. I am not a fan of Woodhall either he even put on a fake gruff voice last time he called a fight with Adam. Sad.

I agree that Spencer should have more airtime. Froch is also excellent. Moore could host Ringside without the need of a sidekick. He is natural and asks relevant questions. Adam and Johnny have allowed their massive egos to botch every high profile interview they have done like Hopkins and Wlad Klit.
Lol whats this fake gruff voice woodhall put on? was he growling like the other sky pundits?

Aye, it was a while back but I remember we all noticed him doing it, matching Adam growl for growl as they comment on mundane details of the fight. It's fake excitement I think.

This thread is old but since then I've been just as dismayed at allegedly coverage. I just think with the talent sky can get that they let themselves down with the shills but then Adam Smith is at the helm so what can be expected. Him and Jonny are almost cuddling at times its hillarious.

Just so we are clear.
Setanta's marketing strategy towards their boxing coverage the reason they went bust?

Something tells me it had a teeny weeny more to do with the rediculous figure they paid to get the Premiership football and the over the odds they paid for the conference football.

There is a reason why pre Sky conference football was never shown on TV baring goals in the regional news.

Their boxing strategy was equally flawed. They would spend 20 minutes, or more of Bunce's boxing hour, previewing fights on SKY, then gave less time to fights on their own channel.

They not only gave advertizing time for boxing events on a rival's station, they even paid for the programming too.

I bet SKY couldnt believe their luck. Setanta do the leg work, SKY get the viewers.

Can somebody please clarify something I've been wondering for a while: is Kell Brook an old gym mate of Johnny Nelson's?

They both fought out of the Wincobank Gym in Sheffield so yes they were but Nelson was more a peer of Ryan Rhodes and Prince Naseem.

Setanta boxing viewing figures for most fights apart from Clazaghe and Haye were very poor. Cotto v Margarito 1 14,000

allegedly commentry just as bad as skys.

You'd think the folks doing allegedly commentary were pulled from other sports and told "This is boxing, talk about it...pretend to be interested and pretend to know what you're on about"...

I liked Sky's bit on John McDermott on Ringside the other night. They seem to be experimenting more and using techniques pionneered by Showtime/HBO.

I think for the Mc Dermott piece they used SLR's to film on which is pretty cool. The look and editing looked slick. More of this please Sky.

Oh thats true - did Setanta ever advertise a Sky boxing show when it was clashing with a Setanta show.

Off course in a way, it seems like all 3 main boxing channels are guilty of it now. Sky are promoting shows (not 20 minutes segments granted) on allegedly.... Bunce's hour (not 20 minute segments granted) are doing it on his show still and Premier Sports have the main event boxing show which discusses the weekly bill.

However, the channel was doomed for failiure cause of the football rights they acquired, nothing more, nothing less. They could have had the perfect buisness model - still wouldn't mean a thing. The minute they paid that much for the football, it was doomed.

DaveBoyMorrison wrote:Adam and Glen really blew it last night, total hyperbole. I think that whole team needs revised. Johnny is overbearing in the studio and made Carl Froch very uncomfortable a few times even going so far as to touch Carls leg to silence him. Froch looked very surprised and then brushed at his leg! If it wasn't so rude it would have been hillarious.

Johnny should be gone in favour of Froch or Moore, Adam should get behind the scenes where he belongs and Dave darts banished altogether. The faces he pulls as he finishes an autocue reading are pathetic.
Nah he's bringing in the female audience with those smouldering glances.

How many of us think we could do a better job? Well I'll put my hand up and say I think I'd make a terrific commentator. I'd love to see Sky hold auditions for talent pooled from boxing forums. They know they'd get the passion and knowledge. But would we be too nerdy? No broadcasting skills? Give us a try :DD :bag:

Personally I like a commentator who knows when to shut up and let the action speak for itself. I'd take Ian Darke on his own doing his best Don Dunphy impersonation over just about anything else.

Reckon he's brilliant, 'natural' is just the right word - seems a really genuine guy.

These gym visit/training slots are so good I wish Sky would package them up including the extra footage/off cuts and put them out as a special or DVD. Would be great watching.

:OhYes:

Commentary is just constant waffle these days, the amount of times I've watched a fight where they've rabbitted on about anything but what's going on in the ring I've lost count.

Cheers, although I confess I was being highly sarcastic which dondada seems to have noticed :TU: Johnny mentions it about 5 times per episode I think. Has anybody else noticed how he always talks in 3s and especially favours 'cool, calm and collected'? Growler Smith seems to be running with this as well.
