I am aware that his post is way too long ago but I would like to learn more about Jeff Simms other than what's already been discussed. Can you tell me more about him? Since you know him personally... I really want to know more about him.

Didnt Enrique edite a book recently about Tales from the Fifth Street Gym?
I have not had a chance to read it yet,but Im curious if anyone in it
discusses either Jeff Sims or Jeff Merritt?

This was Jeff Sims last professional fight September-17- 1991.

according to boxrec,Jeff Sims was shot and killed November-11-1993 in front of Earl's market at Liberty City Florida.

Here is some info about Belle Glade Florida were Sims grew up.
Sounds like it may have been like almost one of those 20th Century holdover plantation type rural communities in the Deep South.
were they charge you rent just to use a machete to cut the sugar cane,
and high rent just to live in a tar paper shack so you can go work in the fields
from dawn to dusk.So that one is always in debt to"The Man",and can never leave.
