Ruben Olivares VS Eder Jofre...
I want to say Olivares, as hes my pick for the best Mex boxer EVER.
Am I being too optimistic though, against the Golden One? He was such a beautiful boxer.

I'd take Jofre by a decision.

I think Jofre had more mettle, and in a fight like this that's what it would come down to.

You think so?
Olivares was pretty fucken ballsy against the bigger, huge-punching Arguello.

Jofre by decision with probably a late kd along the way.

Eder Jofre was a complete fighter in his prime. I believe he was the greatest bantam ever. I pick Jofre to win this fight by late KO.

Eder Jofre wins by KO
Re: Ruben Olivares VS Eder Jofre...
Jofre by decision, but he'd have a few scares along the way from Ruben's powershots. Jofre was an excellent boxer though and he'd fight his way through these moments to take a clear Unanimous decision victory.

Re: Ruben Olivares VS Eder Jofre...
The problem with the great Ruben Olivares was that he threw his punches very wide. While the great Eder Jofre threw his punchers sharp and precise and with extreme accuracy. I think that Jofre had much more stamina also. A complete fighter. Faster than Olivares, too.

Theres always more to it than that, especially with a boxer of Olivares' calibre.elmersalsa wrote:The problem with the great Ruben Olivares was that he threw his punches very wide. Think of it this way. Everything you say here, you could substitute Jofre's name for Frazier's, and Olivares' name for Foreman's. Yet look at that fight.

Re: Ruben Olivares VS Eder Jofre...
Jofre threw wide punches as well, but he was capable of shortening them up in close, whereas Ruben was almost consistently a bolo-type puncher. I definitely wouldn't be giving any speed advantage to Jofre, though, especially not foot speed. Ruben was one of the very best at opening and closing the distance in the blink of an eye.
Jofre's superior durability and grit is what would see him to a win in an absolute war, likely by late stoppage.
