Tony Tubbs vs. Tony Tucker

A battle of the "TNT"s. Why this one, with the similarity of (nick)names and them both being around at the same time, never happened I don't know. Apparently it was close to coming off but...

Tubbs vs. Tucker, who wins? I go with Tucker. He went way downhill his later years in the ring, and was still being promoted as a contender (mid/late '90's) when he shouldn't have been, but at one time was legitimately good. Back in the '80's, he gave Mike Tyson a tough outing, took him to a decision...when Tyson handled Tubbs with relative ease a couple of years later. And Tubbs, true to his last name, was known to come to fights out of shape so Tucker gets the nod with either a decision or (mid/late round) KO but wins in any case.

Assuming 15 rounds, Tucker by close decision. Mainly due to his athleticism and greater mobility.

assuming they are both in their primes, tubbs wins a decision.

not only was tubbs nimble and sharp, he had that great jab. both are counter punchers. however tucker was (surprisingly, for such a big powerful man) bad on the offense, and would always take the offense if his opponent wouldnt come at him.

tubbs would frustrate tucker all night in my opinion.

i love tucker, big tough and durable with a hell of a lot of talent, would be #1 right now in this day and age i feel.

Tony Tucker has to be one the biggest wastes of heavyweight talent in the las 25 years. Drugs and alcohol robbed him of his gifts, and the mark he left in the end was a rather small one.

It was sad to see him that last time against the horrific John Ruiz. And just to think that Ruiz said at the end: "Tony came in great shape" Well they always say that, but the fact that this was 1998, made it sound completely ridiculous.

I agree that Tucker (and Tubbs to a degree) wasted talent.

But the most wasted talent in the HW division in the last 30 years has to be Tim Witherspoon. He could have been an all time great.

In top shape, at around 218lbs, in 1988 he could have given Tyson a very, very tough fight.

It would be extremely close, but I think Tubbs would probably eke it out due to the quality of competition he fought.

Love both guys, but the Tubbs who whipped Page over 15 would do a similar job on Tucker. Tubbs wouldn't fall apart like Buster Douglas, and remember the problems Douglas's speed and movement gave Tucker.

8 years later, and I have a different thought.Tucker would definitely be in better shape(in a prime-vs-prime matchup), and I think that would be the key.He was the harder hitter, though Tony Tubbs was the slightly better boxer.But Tony Tucker would be in shape, landing the more crisper shots, and he knows that Tubbs won't be able to hurt him.Tucker wins in a close unanimous decision over 15 rounds.

It's a bit of a weird one this topic. When I first read the topic title I thought to be myself "didn't they fight back in the day?"
I was pretty sure that they did, though I couldn't remember watching the fight.

That sometimes happens to me, because of the amount of fights that I have watched (without meaning to sound cocky)

A classic example of this is a few weeks back when a guy mentioned to me the fight between Cesar Brion and Ezzard Charles. I told him that I never seen it...
Then later in the week when I grabbed a cup of coffee and got the fight up on Youtube, I realised that I had seen the fight before... Because I start remembering parts of the fight that I had already seen.

I'm not sure if that happens to any of you guys, but it does happen to me - particularly when I watch low-profile bouts, particularly between fighters of the past.

Tubbs all day. Tucker was maybe more durable, but that wouldn't matter in this match. Tubbs by ud.
