Nice to see Colin McMillan and the always great gary newbon on....but the star of the show is Barry McGuigan.....its easy to forget sometimes just how huge Barry was....and what a charasmatic superstar he was......and seeing how complimentary he is being to mcmillan and robinson...

I remember reading Barrys book regarding what happened in vegas. Barry had a bad ankle injury but was forced to fight by Eastwood. Barry made Eastwood do a deal for 250k not sure if £ or $ that if Barry lost then Eastwood would pay Barry this on top of his purse. Barry got this in writing on a piece of paper and his brother kept it guarding it with his life....it ended up in court..

Barry says that Eastwood claimed that if Barry didnt fight then the American TV stations would drop him forever.

He had Ken Buchanan sparring him, he had a young Teddy Atlas over helping with training, Micky Duff making the matches to bring Barry along properly, he had rings set up in the open air before the Pedroza fight for McGuigan to get used to fighting outside and got him good sparring in the states.

Barney's management of McGuigan helped make him one of the biggest stars in British Boxing history. When fought Cruz in the States he was paid something like $600,000.00 when the rival champions like Azumah Nelson were getting paid a fraction of that amount. Barney did'nt sound like a guy that worked with IOU's.

Thats what in the book mate...Barry also questioned why Mickey Duff was making so much money off him when he basically had no contract with him.

Barry also wanted a title shot vs the 130ln champion cant remember his name and was offered big money...Eastwood said NO and i think thats when Barry started to gain legal help from a neutral source as im sure he says that the offer Eastwood made him was missing several hundred thousand dollars

The book is a great read although the court case part was very boring.

Some good points.

It appears that the likes of Barry, Naz, Hatton etc. don't mind paying their managers/trainers their percentage when they are not on very much, but as soon as they get to the big bucks they have a change of heart (conveniently forgetting how the managers/trainers invested a lot of time and money in their early career development without any guarantee of return).

i dont blame the fighters for doing this as the managers etc have made plenty from them and will continue to do so with their stable of fighters for a long time.

a boxer has 1 career to make money...mangers etc have many careers to make money with
