Lets say a comebacking Foreman faced the former champ...
This would have been interesting
Foreman vs Bonecrusher 1989
Decagon ... I almost, but not quite, agree with you that Foreman's second career was overrated. Yeah, he did handpick his opponents, but there were a couple of dangerous fights mixed in there -- e.g. Gerry Cooney, Alex Stewart -- guys who could punch.
Overrated or not, dude was well into his 40s and fighting good fights, really holding his own, with the younger horses. Indeed he lands the lucky one and that's the only way he pulls out the Moorer fight, but that was his M.O. anyway. That's what kept him competitive against guys half his age when obviously whatever speed and reflexes he ever had were long gone.
No one could just walk in and tee off on Old George. You had to respect his power.

Smith is durable but I sill think Foreman take the fight on points.

What happened in 2005 that you just won't let go Roco?

Some corkers in the archives. Rather than create a new thread each time I would prefer to revive the classic. Plus there will be other members who didn't have their say and would like it.

Your name should be changed to NecRoco :P

And u did a good thing reviving this thread...its a worthy one....Smith was exactly the kind of guy the east coast press were saying Foreman should be facing but wasnt.....they thought the big guy was afraid to fight a top 12 contender and afraid to face a real sized HW puncher...Smith was still quite dangerous in 1989 but slowing down rapidly...I think Foreman would have won a ten round decision...Smith was durable and tough and he would have marked up George's face a little but lost on points....Roco wrote:Jaywheel wrote:What happened in 2005 that you just won't let go Roco?

George was a totally different fighter in his second career many notable historians of the time had by 1992 come around to even saying George Mk 2 was better than Mk 1 hahaha I wouldnt go that far but I do think the power, brutality, combinations and intimidationary levels of the first Foreman allied with the experience, defence, stamina and durability of the second equal the greatest HW of all time!
In Foremans second career by early 93 he had answered many of his critics by beating adilson rodrigues, Alex Stewart, Gerry Cooney, and pushing a prime Holyfield.
