Are world tidles now completely irrelevant?

Seeming as we now have world tidles, interim tidles, super tidles, international tidles, tidles emeritus, diamond tidles and ring tidles- Is there any point being a world champion?

You don't get any real credibility for it- and you have to pay stupid fee's...

They are will always be something that boxers aspire to hold and a fighter should always get recognition for winning a title but i think it's how they handle the world title and who they face when they have it.

I think with so many worthless titles about it is diluting the stigma of being known as 'world champion' as there is about 10 of those in any one weight division at a time when you look at all the commissions about now a days.

For the general public I guess can be confusing to actually know who is 'the best'. However boxing fans still know if a title is worth it's salt or not.

I sit in hope that most of the modern boxing commissions will disappear and it be back to only the big big guns like in the 60's and 70's when being called 'world champion' actually meant it; not that you'd won some kinder egg belt that took you 6 fights against unknown, untested fighters to claim...

When you're knowledgeable about the sport, the WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA, WBU, WBF, IBO, IBU et al, are irrelevant. We all know most of the fighters contesting these titles, as long as the best fight the best I'm happy. so, what strap is on offer doesn't matter. Casual fans on the other hand, might need to be told that the two combatants they are watching are championship class, and what better way than to have a trinket on the line? It's all got very much out of hand.

Yes I would say they are completely irrelevant.

Rankings are meaningless, fighters are being awarded belts because of promoters politicking and nobody cares about world titles anymore (Mayweather vs Pacquiao) would be the biggest fight this century and likely no world titles involved.

Voted in the wrong box so take my vote from the 'yes' column and put it in the 'no'.

Being world champion SHOULD mean everything but we all know that most 'champions' are only paper champions and in most weight divisions it is clear who the man is.
I find it difficult that some governing bodies have the nerve to call some of their 'champions' a champion. When the WBO look at the likes of Andre Ward, Lucien Bute and the recently dethroned Carl Froch do they seriously believe that their man is anywhere near the ability of the aforementioned three?

It'll never happen but the sooner we have one champion per weight the sooner the words 'world champion' will have any meaning in boxing.

Most people are aware that these organisations are just businesses, and corrupt ones to boot, and are a black eye for the sport. With so many alphabet titles out their now and mutliple champions per division their worth has diminished greatly in recent times, but unfortunately they are far from being irrelevant.
