AL brown vs Ruben Olivares.... who would win?...
These two fighters can lay claim to perhaps being the best two 118 fighters of all time. But who would win if they had fought eachother in their primes?......

Good fight choice... I've never seen Brown fight. I've read that he was tall had very good punching ability and, judging by the years that he fought, I would assume that he knew how to use his advantages and could fight well inside. I am more familiar, obviously, with Olivares, having seen him quite a few times. At 118 I don' think he did as much on the party circuit as he later did, and certainly he wasn't dissipated; in fact he was like a leopard the night he won the title. I have often watched his fight against Arguello and am of the opinion that he had Alexis beat when he decided to duck into that left hook then the right uppercut. ... You know I started out thinking Olivares would win but I really can't see it. Brown had all those fights and was never stopped, and I'm going to take a leap and assume, again, based on the eras in which they fought, that Brown was better than Arguello, or, at least, more agile and mobile in the ring. Points win or late tko for Brown
Brown was a master boxer with a good punch but could he take the body punches of Olivares?... I see it being a very close fight... Olivares was pretty phenomenal at Bantam, like a tiny Duran only perhaps with more one punch power. Brown dropped a decision in '31 to Newsboy Brown who had a simular windmil style to Olivares so perhaps he was vulnerble to fighters that could get inside and go for his body and crowd him like Olivares would certainly do.
