Mike McCallum vs Emile Griffith at 154lbs. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

This could have been a real interesting, exciting and technical fight between two of the finest fighters of recent years.

But who would win over 15 rounds? :box: :box:

Mike McCallum was close to unbeatable at 154 - Surprisingly I'd take McCallum by late TKO or UNI DEC -

I think Mccullam would be a bit too strong and active for Griffith and would win close decision. Tough fight though.

I go for Griffith at 154, but McCallum at 160.

I think Griffith was so strong and solid below middle. Really hard to keep the guy off. Griffith to win a physical fight. McCallum was so awkward at 154 even though his form was awesome: Julian Jackson, Kalule, Curry, Dave Braxton, and McCrory all inside the distance.

At 160 though, with Futch, McCallum was the dog's bollocks of ring technicians. He really found his style.

After getting spanked by Kalambay, he sharpens up and then beats two of the trickiest guys you'll ever see at m/w, on points: Herol Graham & of course Kalambay. MM-Kalambay II was a classic.

Not to mention he should've got the decision in at least one of the Toney fights - when Toney was 23 & MM was 35/6! And his wins over Michael Watson and Steve Collins are well underrated.

For a guy who was avoided, McCallum has a heck of a lot of excellent fighters on his resume.

I think this is an inspired match up. Nice one KOJOE...

This would defintitely require a 3 fight series. McCallum hit harder and both were fine technicians. All 3 fights go the distance each one a split decision with McCallum winning 2 of 3, just ebcasue he's naturally bigger and punches with a bit more power.
