Mayweather Vs Cotto May 5th.

Post by jessi »

Should be signed any minute soon, Mayweather steps up to 154lbs to take on Cotto for his WBA light middleweight belt on May the 5th in Las Vegas, Mayweather tweeted "I'm fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me"

Great fight, seeing as it's at 154lbs it has to be close to a 50/50 fight IMO, I'd personally favor Mayweather as his the defensive master ! And the extra weight and power of Cotto won't bother him to much, thoughts ?

It's nowhere near a 50/50 fight imo.

Mayweather is too fast and skilled, and I expect him to win a wide decision.

My 2 Fav fighters gutted tbh that one will lose, probably cotto, cant see him getttin badly hurt though think it will just be a boxing masterclass by floyd with him hardly taking a clean punch and picking miguel off all night,

Took the words out of my mouth. Can't get remotely excited about this fight at all.

Can't help but feel this might be better than we all think, its not Pacman and for that I am disappointed but if I have to watch Floyd win again I at least
want to feel there is a chance of him being unsettled or even beat.

Whilst accepting that the Puerto Rican is not the fighter he was ,Cotto is still classy at picking shots from distance and whilst inside his combinations are still pretty impressive, his footwork is good and for 9 or 10 rounds his stamina is pretty solid. He punches with respect and with the right gameplan don't be surprised to see this closer than it looks on paper. Cotto has a huge heart and I think we all accept the Margo 1st fight as something that should be forgotten in terms of anyone thinking he quit, if anything the man battled on against enormous odds whilst many would have been out by halfway being hit by those house bricks. Floyd will also have the jail term getting closer as the fight night nears and I am not sure any man can put that completely out of there mind, Cotto will have absolutely nothing to lose as he will know that so few give him a chance.

I will stay among the few, this is not a bad fight at all for me and I don't think its a gimmee, Cotto is pretty good at waiting for openings, as long as he does not try and force the fight, whilst it might therefore not be a classic, it could turn into a chess match and thereby perhaps become one of Mayweather's toughter fights and by that context one of the most intgriguing.

Three of four years ago, It was a fight that I really wanted to see.

No though, I feel Cotto is not what he was and Floyd`s defense just seems to get better with age. I can see a Marquez style shut out.

The real sadness of this story is the fact Tim Bradley will now kick Pacman's ass and the big fight will be lost.

I think he's due a bit of credit for making this fight. Its the next best opponent.

I dont think there's anyone from 135 all the way up to 160 that can defeat Mayweather.

i think this will be a good fight , im glad its actually at Cottos weight and hes not being made to drag down to nearer welter , ( well as far as im aware anyway )

Disagree with comment about Bradley beating Pacman

as much as i rate Bradley i would heavily favour PAc in that one ,

Mayweather should stop Cotto late on.

Agree with Bradley over Pac, I think its getting to that time where a changin of the guard is due. Like pac did to barrera.

Pacman's output is falling. His focus weakening. Bradley is bold, always has a plan, is quick and can vary his work. I think he is a very live under-dog with Pacman at this stage.

Mayweather fights the number 1 fighter at 154 and it gets condemmed.... not one post so far saying "good fight".

I've said before Mayweather cannot win with some people.....

"hand picked".....

I think it's a good fight. It also opens doors with a Martinez fight, as Sergio will drop to 154. I care much more about Martinez-Mayweather than Pacman-Mayweather.

Sure, Manny rolled over Cotto. Floyd easily beat Marquez. Hatton won rounds against Floyd and Manny annihilated him. So what?

Maybe Cotto gives Mayweather a hard time?

I'm sure your correct to an extent. I'm going to give Mayweather props for taking this fight, i was'nt expecting it and i'm definately excited about it. Other than Pacquiao, i cant think of a better oponent for Mayweather at this stage than Cotto. I never thought Martinez was a realistic option, too much weight difference.

However, i cannot overlook the fact that i truely believe Cotto would have stood a better chance of winning had the fight happened anytime between 2005 and 2007. Its on now and thats great, Cotto is the #1 light-middleweight and in good form, but i dont think he's the fighter he once was. The time to make this fight was 5 to 7 years ago, but as is always with Mayweather, his fights never happen when they should or how they should. I'm not interested on how/why it never happened at that time, it just did'nt, but it should have.

Very one sided fight IMO. To get anywhere Cotto needs Floyd to make a big big mistake and that hasn't happened yet. I don't see Cotto as the man to force one out of him either, he'll be chasing shadows all night

Go to the MGM direct and you'll be able to pick them up when you arrive.

Bookies don't have this as 50/50 and i'm with them, 1/6 for a 'Money' win

You say "hand picked" but whoever he fought outside of Pacquaio would have been deemed hand picked also.

If he can't fight Pacqauio, who would choose for him to fight that wouldn't get criticised ?? Exactly...............There is no-one !!
