Just heard the sad news on the radio, he was 90 years old, r i p to probably the most famous cornerman of all time, thoughts are with his family and close friends.

Only recently watched a great interview with Angelo.

Very sad news, a giant is lost to the boxing world.

Too many sportsmen are labelled as "great" these days and talk about their "legacy" when they haven't made even the slightest mark on the history of their sport.

This cannot be said about Angelo Dundee, or sadly, Joe Frazier a few months ago. Two genuine legends whose contribution to boxing will live on well past the days of alphabet 'world' titles and meaningless contests.

It's difficult to get hold of these days, but Dundee's biography, "I Only Talk Winning" (Mike Winters) is essential reading.

The Dundee countdown for Leonard vs Hagler was the one of his most inspired speeches he delievered.

After a torrid back for fourth exchange in the 9th round.... Leonard looked dead tired.

Angelo.... "YOU've got 9 minutes to the title" - He offered no advice in the corner... Leonard needed no advice..... Dundee kept telling him "9 minutes to the title".

Then after the 10th. Angelo looked like he was going to have a heart attack "6 minutes till the title, you've only got 6 minutes... you can do six minutes in your sleep.... Champion, 6 minutes, a new champion".

Then after the 11th..... "3 minutes".... got the crowd going, got an exhausted Leonard to get up and showboat.... and when Richard Steele came in and said "one more round and the fight is over"... Dundee responsed with "you betcha".

Truly great stuff.

I remained convinced Leonard would have knocked out Hearns in the rematch in the mid rounds had Dundee been in the corner.

We'll never see his like again.

Such an absolute legend. I remember all the quotations in this thread. Angelo really was pure excitement. He was a brilliant man, trainer and, according to everyone, a real nice guy. 90 years, well done indeed.

"You're behind son, you've got to put this man down" - never forgot those words, to Foreman, after nine rounds versus Moorer. Awesome.
