Quigg vs Arthur - SPOILER

Post by ThereByTheGrace »

Quigg wins round 8 ref stopped fight after a body shot - Arthur turned his back.

Watt's reaction was way OTT; I felt it was a fair stoppage as the fight was heading one way after round 4 and Arthur did not look interested in fighting back when he was hit with that excellent body shot.

Opinions?

I agreed with Barry at first,

but on 2nd look you cant be doing that in any fight.... he would have survived it had he took a knee, but he turned his back completely and left himself defenceless. The ref will take some stick but it was a justifiable decision albeit one that can be argued either way.

Arthur's fault unfortunately.

Think the ref should have called time, warned him for turning and told them to box on I think but mark green did right ultimately protecting the safety of a boxer who wasn't effectively defending himself.

What a great effort by Arthur though.

Can see your point, but it was like a spin around which was so Quigg, by the time Quigg had thrown his next punch, Arthur was facing him.

Arthur should have had a point deducted and then the fight should have continued.

Poor stoppage, yes arthur was sickened by the shot, but it was a title fight. Not only did the ref rob arthur of a chance to regroup, he robbed quigg of a legitimate stoppage. I personally think it would probably have ended soon after, but this isnt minority report, it should been allowed to play out, it's not like arthur had been battered from pillar to post hed taken a few big ones and was starting to get a little overwhelmed, but jesus, this is boxing, not draughts.

disagree, the ref should have allowed quigg to keep working as Arthur was already facing the right way. Had he taken anothe 4-5 big ones, then it would have been a good time to intervene.

I think Arthur was annoyed with himself at the end because he turned his back and gave the ref a reason to stop it. He seemed frustrated and gave a really good account of himself so I can understand why.

Arthur pulled a "no mas"

His own fault for dropping his hands, grimacing and turning his back.

He tried to claw it back, but the Ref had intervened by then.

For a title the stoppage was premature definitely. I agree that he should of had a warning and been told to box on. Or a standing 8 count even. I don't think it would of gone much longer. But remember Katsides v Earl? I have to add Quigg, offensively is a wrecking machine. Again I was very impressed.

Arthur turned his back surely the sign of either a beaten fighter or an uninterested fighter. A rematch should be made.

I wouldn't want to see a rematch. Quigg should move on and fight Munroe or Martinez.

Frampton should be aiming for Arthur, Booth or Casey.

Agreed imo he gave the ref no choice but to step in he had just turned his back on quigg and still had his hands down when quigg when into finish, he didnt put his hands back up until after the ref had stopped quigg from throwing.

Arthur had his hands up by the time the ref stopped it. The referee certainly did have a choice.

he had his hands down when quigg was pouncing forward, that means he was unable to defend himself, thats why the ref stepped in. The ref was already moving in to stop the fight by the time Arthur had put his hands up the point of no return had passed for the ref and im sure there is no standing 8 count. If Arthur had been nailed by a big right and sparked whilst his hands were down and the ref hadnt made and attempt to step in we would all be complaining he didnt do enough.

He should have deducted a point from Arthur and then allowed the fight to continue. Are you really saying that once the referee had made a move to break up the action, that he couldn't change his mind and choose not to stop the fight?

Totally agree, Arthur looked very sharp early and boxed well. Quigg is good but needs some more experience before he steps up. Some great fghts wi those three guys you mentioned in 2012.

Yes if the ref has interfered in a fighter finishing off his opponent. Its not like he was just wondering over and shouting break, he had to sprint across to try and stop quigg throwing whilst Arthurs hands were down, the fact Arthur managed to put his hands up was neither here nor there punches had already been thrown and i think landed and the ref was clearly interviening by that time. What did Arthur think - he could turn his back on his opponent then leave his hands down and take a breather without being hit or the fight being stopped? Theres no standing 8 count he either has to take a knee or continue to defend himself. He's experienced enough to know that.
