Inactive Commonwealth Lightweight title

Post by Horse »

This title hasn't been fought for in over two years, yet the domestic lightweight division is arguably the best we currently have. We have Burns, Mitchell, Murray, Rees, Crolla, Mathews and then below them have Limond, Murphy, Watson and Johanneson.

Wouldn't a fight like Murray vs Mathews for the vacant Commonwealth title make sense?

George Ashie has booked it but 3 fights have fallen through for various reasons.

What's the point of a Commonwealth title if it merely seems like the Lonsdale Belt Mark II? Too many all British fights. If decent fighters from South Africa, Australia and Canada never get a look-in, it doesn't seem much more valid than your average interim WBC Pan-Asian-South American Sliver title.

That's not to say I wouldn't want to see Murray vs Mathews btw, because I would. :TU:

There are alot of good fighters out there who could use the Commonwealth Title to get their careers started or back on track. Strange how it's been so inactive Mcallister had it over a year and a half with only 2 defences. Same with Lee Haskins he had the same title at Super-Fly for a while. These titles should be made more active.
