OFF TOPIC: box rec official ashes thread
I played rugby with Liam Botham a couple of times. He was pretty ordinary, to be honest, I was stunned when I heard he was going pro. Fair play to him, mind, he's done a reasonable job at being a journeyman at a decent level.
He was a bit of an arrogant lad, mind. Especially considering he went to school in Fleetwood. We were at a lunch one training camp for Lancs schools and at the time we were captained by Mike Worsley, guy who's a fringe England squad prop now but who at the time was England schools skipper and a meat head. Botham piped up with, "You know, I play cricket for Yorkshire, hockey for Yorkshire but I play rugby for Lancahsire." Worsley stopped eating, looked at him square and said, "Well fornicate off and play rugby for Yorkshire then." Botham piped down.
Anyway, always a shame when a career is cut short like this. Hope he finds something to sort himself out. Bit-parts in Shredded Wheat commercials aren't as lucrative as they used to be.

I don't perhaps playing in Wales at the time inflated his ability, but I rated him very highly at Cardiff.Coconut wrote:I played rugby with Liam Botham a couple of times. I cannot believe that at Rugby League he was playing two positions - centre and second row. I know the League game there are no really positions, but it must be a bit of a difference.
Apparently, Wigan were gutted to hear the news so was probably doing reasonably well in the 13 man game also.
Yep, to be fair he must have improved a fair bit and he evidently had talent. Just when I knew him he was a middling centre, third best back in his school side, and everyone in the county side thought he was in the squad largely on who he was - his old man and Billy Beaumont being good mates, and Bill and Lancashire / North rugby being very closely linked.
Beaumont, may I just say, is a lovely guy. I played my junior rugby down his old club, and he's a top bloke. Huge arse. Seriously, it's like he's got a couple of space hoppers stuck to the back of his y-fronts.

not yet they arent, we aint won the ashes yet for starters.stujones wrote:So in that case, Geriant Jones has been England's best player. The rest are / or at least will be, Cricketing gods.J wrote:i refuse to include cricketing gods when comparing mere mortals.
anyone who thinks this is a done deal nees their head examined.
I was out drinking with some female Aussie mates last week and we were talking about the cricket. They cant stand Warne saying all this bad shit about him and what a dog he is. I won no points for saying Warne is a legend and I loved the guy even though he is an Aussie. They thought I was being sarcastic but I would love to get out on a night out on the tiles with him.Ben Keilty wrote:Amazing Warney is playing so well with his bloody misses leaving him and all. Then she has the nerve to go on TV over here and say things like "Is it to much to expect him to remain faithful for 8 weeks alone in England![]()
" Yes it is to much to expect.
I bet his Mrs will have him back, money talks.

You'd have thought he'd have contracted the dreaded Calzaghe Back...
Doubt Simone will get back with Shane, it's been too many times now. Money does talk, but I reckon the money would need to sing one hell of a love song to win her back after the last 3 that have put their hands up.
Good news for the English is that McGrath looks to be in some serious doubt due to an elbow injury. Still, can't wait for tomorrow night.... should be a cracker!

i owuldnt have thought going back to him will get her as much money as adivorce and alimony for two kids would so dont see that argument.
While warne is a genius like most talented sportsmen, he is a majorly flawed personality.
Arrogant, opinionated, party boy, who cant keep his cock in his pants.
i love him he is great.
In seriousness i can see her point of view its not like its the first time remember when he first came to england, he was getting charlied up and making dirty fone calls that nurse, dont bother me, but im not sure id want to be in a relationship with someone doing all that. Cant blame her really.

Sorry, I meant I hope it's all to play for. I'd love to be at the Oval, but it's a no go.
And trust me, between my pissed-up brother, his deranged, (and skiving off work) mates and the group of 12 year old scally's screaming "SIDDOWN YA CONVICTS" every 5 minutes up in manchester, I hear where you're coming from with the looney thing
