DESERT SHOWDOWN 2011
SHARE YOUR EXPERIANCE HERE GOOD OR BAD .....
Re: DESERT SHOWDOWN 2011
I will most definetly return next year,as usual there were some bad decisions, when you go to another LBC and most of their officials are working the bouts, you know if its a close or semi close bout, you are not going to get the decision. This year was more unorganized than most, part of thr reason was that this year there was a cutoff date for entries, and alot of coaches either didn't notice it on the paperwork or ignored it,so Tuesday night when they originally posted the brackets, coaches assumed they knew who and when they were boxing, but then they said they had to re bracket most divisions because of all the late entries,so we didn't know who was boxing till the first day of competition on Wednesday. This year was the most amount of entries I have seen in my 4 years of attending. For the 4 days of competition, all 3 rings averaged anywhere from 35 to 53 bouts per ring. The officials and volunteers from LBC 33 worked hard and I tip my cap to them

Re: DESERT SHOWDOWN 2011
Im not sure if i want to attend again.I have attended 2 years in a row and it was good until the finals when you get bad decisions due to bad judging and not rotating judges in all 3 rings. Another thing that really bothered me was all the walkovers during the tournament that the tournament directors knew about but didn't list on bout sheets,so there were fighters and coaches getting up early everyday to weigh in and preparing to fight, wrapping hands which means using tape & gauze that most coaches buy out of their own pocket,no bout sheets handed out to public and coaches so we never knew there was a walkover until right up to the fight itself. So i asked the tournament director why they listed fighters on the bout sheets that never attended. He said that "We lose an an entry" by them not showing up.I didn't understand what he meant or said at that moment. So what they did was put every mail in entry and walk in on the bout sheet knowing that a good amount of mail in entries weren't coming. We confirmed our entries the day before tourney. So what he meant was by "losing an entry" he loses money, the hotels lose money, restaurants etc. If you have a fighter who doesn't fight until the final day and you get a hotel, eat out bring family and friends, but if you knew there was a walkover you wouldn't have wasted your hard earned money on 3 days of wating to compete while the whole time the tournament directors knew there was no fight. So it's all about greed, they didn't care about the fighters and coaches.I've been laid off 2 years you think they give a damn about me.boxingcoach80 wrote:SHARE YOUR EXPERIANCE HERE GOOD OR BAD .....

not sure if I will attend again. had very bad experience last year basically drove many hours to be toyed with. My son who was turning 13 n two weeks was not allowed to fight in the 13 -14 age group as they had no fighters in 11-12 age group. Explained to the folks there that we drove like 10 hours and basically begged for a fight. Was allowed to enter him in the 13 -14 age group and was told we would be fighting Told my son the good news and he was beyond happy. Came back later to check the board did not see his name and basically spent the next day or so running around being told a million different things and ended up not fighting. I understand this is all volunteers working and I respect that but I really had a sour taste left after attending this event. Had wonderful experience at Jr. Golden Gloves 2011 and Ringside 2010.GOD willing we will be attending both in 2012
Re: DESERT SHOWDOWN 2011
Due to flagrant rule breaking, Ralph's refusal to do a draw and stick to it, poor officiating, and other odd assorted messes, I have not worked the Desert Disaster in years nor will I ever. Rumor has it he's trying to move the tournament to Las Vegas - IF that LBC will have him......not sure if I will attend again. had very bad experience last year
