Juan Domingo Roldan 1987 v Nigel Benn 1990

Post by Bricks »

Who would win this...yet another dream fight from one of the greatest eras of middleweight talent (1987-1992)

Im talking the Roldan who went in with Hearns and the Benn who had just got rid of Barkley.

benn would win by stoppage in 5/6,brutally in the end, think roldan was tailer made for a fighter like benn,it would be a great tear up though :box:

roldan looked a one paced caveman but his defence was actually superb coming in usually...he did that half step feint and would than unload from crazy angles....but I agree Benn was just as wild and faster and a harder puncher....but boy if Roldan landed on him like he did tommy hearns, benn would have been out of there at this stage of his career....having thought about it I think Roldan stops him in four after a tomohawk like right sends benn wobbling to the ropes where he would be put out.

Great war between two of my favorite fighters from that era. Roldan would be a belt holder today and probably a star with his punch. I would go with Roldan somewhere around the 8th or 9th round, but Benn was a warrior as well, so who knows?

what always stands Benn out from the likes of Eubanks and Herol Graham and Steve Collins in my eyes is that he took on dangerous american based foe after foe in this rich era.

Mclellan,Barkley and Dewitt.

Dewitt was another spunky guy willing to trade, unlike the others he wasnt a power puncher.

Benn instead of coming back to the UK to fight Eubanks in late 90, should have stayed in the states in the summer and made a couple of quick defences against say a Matthew Hilton , or a rematch with Barkley or a unification with Julian Jackson....if he got through, that fight he was chasing in 1990 with SRL might have happened in early 1991 instead of SRL-Norris....I mean even if he had lost to SRL or Jackson before that, the eubanks rivalry was always gonna happen once he returned to the UK as both were opposites
