That was absolute gold. My favourite was : “Most people are fucked by what’s around them in boxing. I’d rather train a bantamweight who trains like an African slave and does his job right instead of some big, fat pudendum who’s 6’9".

That is an awesome interview. What a character. I love the bluntness of it.

For him to say that Luke can't punch, probably won't be a World champion, etc. -- is it bitterness or truthfulness? Personally, I think he's talking sense. We've seen Fury's weaknesses in his fights. He's no future World champ, while on his current path.

This is an inspirational piece. So simple yet so insightful, funny.

Should be flogging this to the Sun mate.

Blimey that's some straight talking, I'll expect the Hennessy counterattack sometime around lunchtime. One thing I'm not sure on is where he says Tyson doesn't need a conditioner. Looking from the outside in it seems like a professional approach to diet and conditioning would help no end.

Yes - he certainly burnt his bridges with those pearls of wisdom..

Only thing i could pull apart was the comment about Tyson wanting a conditioner - then revealing how he would diet before hard training and make himself tired.

About him not fighting Price though ... I'd guess that was a Hennessy decision rather than a Tyson one.

It's an insightful piece. It just shows that whatever his potential / talent, he does not train properly, his mind is all over the place and he won't knuckle down.

It just seems that Tyson doesn't have the mindset / discipline to make iit. If he trained and ate properly like the Klits maybe he would.

I must say I've started to turn against Fury; especially when compared to a consumate pro like David Price.

So do people dislike Tyson because he's a traveller?

I've not noticed him not being supported because he's a traveller, and he seems to get plenty of positive write ups in the press.

hard roadwork and sparring a week before a fight, is it unusual?

I was expecting something more unhinged by the first comment. That all seemed quite sensible and believable. He's certainly not politically correct but he doesn't sound bitter to me, just annoyed and exasperated.

Good stuff, i want to hear more. Those quality one liners seemed effortless. He should get a five minute opinion spot on every Sky boxing broadcast.

Sparring is usually all but gone in the week before a fight I believe.

I dont think any of this is a surprise. The kid has talent, charisma and balls like space-hoppers. We can all see the flaws; conditioning, focus and pop.

But he isn't half fun to watch.

Price has talent, conditioning, focus and pop. Balls still to be required and his chin yet to be checked.

Be a shame if Fury doesn't knuckle down, but then, it would be boring if they were all robots.

It would be worth it just to see the panic on Adam Smith's face every time he was on air.

Great little read that!

Judging from this interview and the small piece on Ringside (about Fury training at many different gyms) sounds like Fury really needs to get a permanent camp sorted out. He's only young and got time but where does he go when he loses his O and gets dropped by Channel 5? He might get serious then or it might be too late.

An amazing read although you couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for Tyson. His dad was obviously a powerful character and a very strong influence in his life and now he's not around if seems that Tyson is flailing around somewhat.

Excellent interview. Doesn't appear to be bitter in a Frank W@rren sort of way, just an honest assesment of where Fury is not fulfilling his potential.

Thanks all. Hughie certainly had a lot to say. It may come across as a rant in parts, however the guy seemed more frustrated at the direction in which he perceives Tyson's career is heading in rather than being bitter. His tone and language suggest otherwise but I got the impression that he does care but his tolerance has been stretched to the limit. He's a straight talker and certainly doesn't shy away when asked direct questions.

I began the day by trying to obtain further comment from Hennessy Sports, Frank Maloney and Tyson Fury, without success. I'm glad Hughie picked up the phone.

I can't see any response coming from Tyson and Hennessey - what can you possibly say to that? A dignified silence far more appropriate.

I have personally witnessed Hughie completely lose the plot before and i suspect that this is what has happened here. He'll probably be back training him within a fortnight ...

I would be very surprised If people did.

If a guy is a traveller - has a darker .. or lighter skin tone - a different religion - or different nationality ... It doesn`t make the slightest bit of difference to me.

As long as they can fight. Put on a good show of it .. and not try to take the piss.
Thats all I really care about in a boxer :TU:
