May not be 1 of the top domestic names but just thought I'd post this up.

After a poor performance losing to John Watson in a round on Saturday in Prizefighter Dean has decided to call it a day. His mind obviously wasn't right on the night (his new born son Dustin is still in hospital) and he has always struggled at light welterweight.

He's had injury problems, has also struggled to get opportunities to fight at decent notice in recent years, and has as mentioned struggled making light welter in recent years, he's still had a very good career and has done Wolverhampton proud giving us some top night around the area.

A brief overvirew of his career....

After making his debut in October 2006 wracked up 9 pro wins mostly against journeymen, mostly fighting at home around Wolverhampton/Dudley area.

Beat Ramon Guevera in the 5th of a 6 rounder on the pre-Mayweather/Hatton bill in Las Vegas (the day before) that also included Lee Meager, John Murray, Craig McEwan and Martin Gethin.

Clocked up a couple of 8 rounder wins over Alex Brew and Gary Reid at home.

Was very unlucky losing his unbeaten record by a single point, in his first title fight against Scott Haywood for the English Light welter (shown on Sky).

Beat Chris Long (Long retiring at the end of the 8th) for the International Masters Welterweight belt at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

After beating Laszlo Komjathi in a tough but routine 8 rounder just a month before stepped in at very short notice to face Paul McCloskey for his British light welter belt. McCloskey looked very good that night and stopped Dean in four rounds live on Sky.

Beat Ali Wyatt in a routine 6 rounder but then lost in an upset to Darren Askew in Stoke in 3 of 6 rounds.

Aswell as training with Errol Johnson and Bob Plant, Harrison also trained with Lee Beard (he'd spent a lot of time with the Hatton's in the past) and also spent time at the Wildcard gym.

Bounced back from the Askew loss to stop Ben Lawler in 1 round winning his Midland Area light welter title at Wolverhampton civic hall (the bill was also live on the net via the Hatton's website)

Again challenged unsuccesfully for the English light welter belt losing a competitive close one to Nigel Wright (put Wright down in the 7th) up in the North East.

Went over to Las Vegas getting stopped by US hot prospect Mike Alvarado in 4 of 8 on the Donaire/Montiel undercard.

Lost a shock 4 rounder in London to William Warburton, with Errol Johnson protesting it should of atleast been a draw.

Lost in the first round of Prizefighter Light welterweights, getting stopped by John Watson in the first round infront of his hometown fans, sad way to end a very good career.

He may not have been a big star and was a bit of a nearly man when it came to big domestic honours but as I said he suffered some terrible luck at times.

He was Wolverhampton's flagship fighter for the last few years and gave the city some great fights.

I really feel if he'd have had the backing of 1 of the big promoters he would of won the English/British (most his chances came at short notice away from home) - a lot of people including boxing people ringside thought he beat Haywood in Nottingham.

What he did achieve though is still something to be very proud of.

Yep he looked very promising at one point then it just seemed to fall off the rails completely. The way he buckled under that shot from John Watson was a bit worrying as if he'd lost his chin, maybe it was the weight making who knows but yeh, a decent start to his career but boxing is a cruel game if you aint being looked after by a decent promoter.

I always liked Deano. He was often matched a touch harder than those in a similar position to him, and was frequently in exciting fights.

I wish him well and really hope the little 'un is OK.

A lot of good fighters never even win an area title or even box for one( i.e. your own Adrian Wright), So i think once his pride has recovered re. the 1 round loss i'm sure he will look back on some good memories

Exaclty fella, I think too many people on here sniff at area and masters titles, when in reality even having a pro fight is a great achievement and winning any title is something to be extremely proud of

Some good nights at the Civic watching Dean, just didnt quite get that nod against Haywood when he was on his way up, was sad on Saturday looking like he had lost that belief in himself, as somebody said before he may of got an English title had he had more backing, thanks Dean enjoyed them early days!

He's a lovely lad and did well, even if i felt he could have achieved more. To be honest, i thought he deserved the nod in that English title fight with Haywood, although it was undoubtedly close.
